View Full Version : Why do all XJ guys in NOVA have to be gay!?

Found two nice looking rigs running around on I-495 today and I chased them down hoping that I'd be able to meet some more NAXJA guys, but as it turns out.....they don't belong to any group. I tried to convert them to NAXJAers on the spot, but they wouldn't have it and they just drove away. Its too bad, they were nice looking rigs, however, they sure looked like over paid as$(L!@'s. Its too bad that they're not more of us around. I think we should come up with some meet and greets in our local towns, like Richmond, Fredericksburg, Washington D.C., Norfolk/VA beach and the like. (sorry you guys in other states, I'm slipping on large city names here) I see quite a number of lifted XJ's in Fredericksburg, but it sure doesn't seem like any of them belong to NAXJA. So what's up with that stuff!?!

I did an urban night vision systems training class in the early 90's around DC. One of our stops was the USMC memorial. After throwing up we shifted to low intensity remote laser illumination with long lenses of select building interiors, much more satisfying.

I'm sure that people are running local club events too, how about combining the two? I know that I don't see very many XJ's when I wheel, wouldn't hurt. Or how about a meet and greet near a good yard (salvage/junk u pull it, PNP, etc)? Find a decent place to eat that won't mind a couple of Jeeps in the parking lot. I know there are a couple of yards local to me (within an hour) and a few decent spots to eat. My .02.

I'm down for that!
If anyone is in NEwport NEws on a Sunday morning we have a coffee run at 10 AM every sunday. We take up about a quarter of the parkinglot sometimes at the local Barnes and Nobles.
Anyone is welcome!

Gimmie a holler, I'm up in Richmond. If you guys want to do a junkyard run, there's a couple real nice U-pull 'yards up here I go to.
My latest haul, from this past weekend: ZJ tie rod ($11), AC compressor/lines/pulleys/brackets for my OBA project ($35). Bring your toolbox, $1 to get in, and I'll show y'all around:rof:

I'll host a junkyard run anytime if you guys want to come to Richmond. Just pick a weekend date (I work M-F). Just an FYI...these 'yards change their hours to "winter" hours when the clocks change later on this month. Right now they're open 7 days a week from 8AM to 7PM, but they start closing @ 4:30 soon
They take cash or credit only, so don't bother even bringing the checkbook. And they don't inventory anything other than vehicle make and year, and what row it's on. You just have to walk around and look for what you want, but they do have different sections for the major makes, Ford, Chevy, Chryco, and Import....so at least all the XJ/MJ/ZJ's are all together. No alcohol, bare feet:farmer: , jacks of any kind, or kids under 16 allowed. Can't take a vehicle in (which kinda sucks at one of them because the Chryco section is the farthest one from the gate) but they've got plenty of wheelbarrows to drag anything up to the registers. Also have a handful of chain hoists on portable A frames you can use to pull engines and whatnot.
You all figure out if/when you want to get together and let me know, and I'll arrange the meetup details. If it's only a couple vehicles coming we can meet up at my place but if alot show up that might not be such a good idea....my subdivision is kinda pissy (and doesn't really like me anyhow:piratefla ).

You looking for a 12 bolt? There's usually a couple Troopers down at CAR (the yard that's south of Richmond)

I'm headed down to both of CAR's on saturday and I'll see what they have there. I'd rather get a dana 44 (is a 12 bolt a dana 44? I don't have any idea) as it is about the width I'd like as well as has disc brakes. If they are the same I'll probably get one.

Search Newb! :D
The dana 44 isn't commonly called a 12 bolt. 12 bolt generally refers to a GM 3/4 ton axle. There are many picture charts available which will show you exactly what a 44 looks like.

YOU search you NOOB!!! It is no where near the same as a GM 12 bolt as far as the Isuzu is concerned. :kissyou: It is a Corporate 12 bolt, varying widths depending on ZU generation, comparable to a dana 60 in some sense of the word, disc brakes, 3rd member drop out, but gears are a terriable thing to find for it from what I hear/can find. :compwork: Love you too buddy! Na, in all seriousness, yeah, I have a GM 12 bolt sitting in my pickup, but I knew the ZU stuff wasn't the same. Been lurking all over the ZU guys sites all night and it appears as if I might be just getting a dana 44 after all instead of a corp 12.

Ok, so I went to CAR and CAP yesterday and tracked down the specified vehicles.....holy hell. If I had a set of Corporate 12 bolt 5.13's I'da just snagged one and saved myself HOURS. They were everywhere. Now the Dana 44 on the other hand......well, there WERE three there. They had all been raped and parts where everywhere, so I did the best I could to make a complete axle out of them. I got 1 caliper, two axle shafts/backing plates that looked not too mangled, 1 caliper mount bracket, a housing, and two bearing caps that apperared to belong to the axle housing for about $39 bucks. Now I guess my question is about the bearing caps. How critical is it to have the correct bearing cap on the correct side? None of them were marked and I found an oval on one cap that sorta kinda matched an oval stamped on the housing, although about two inches appart. I couldn't kind any markings like my dana 30 has, the Y's and K's on the caps, so I'm just hoping that its not critical. I've always reused bearing caps and never had to replace them, so if I were to just replace them, would it be a problem or would I run into machining issues? Also, does anyone know where I can snag a diagram of how these shafts are supposed to be put togeather? Like I had mentioned, parts were everywhere with none of them anywhere close to where they should be.
