View Full Version : "I can park anywhere I want on the street!"

YELLAHEEP
May 6th, 2009, 13:06
So, some guy parks his car right smack in front of my driveway last night. Couldn't figure out where he was before I go to work and the wife had just enough room to pull into the next to the S-10. She says "Ah, don't worry about it, I have nowhere to go tonight and you'll be at work"...... so I let it go - figured it'd be gone by morning.......

Wrong. Still there. I get with a few neighbors and none of the immediate ones know the car. I check with some up the street - and apparently the owner of the car answers the door 3 houses down. I ask if anyone there owns the blue Olds and he says "I do - what about it." I tell him it's blocking my driveway and I'd like him to move it. He says "Well I can't, it's broke down and I'll be fixing it this weekend when I can get a starter for it." I tell him "Uh, no, you'll come down with me and we'll push it outta the way." He then says.......

"I can park anywhere I want on the street - it's public domain." and promptly shuts the door on me.

Oh really......... :flamemad:

I REALLY didn't expect the reactions would go the way they did! I go to bed and when I get up this afternoon..... 3 PAGES!!! I figured ALL posts would have been calling B.S. This thread is CLASSIC! :D

When I first started to create the post, the title was "Did a little urban 'wheeling today"...... dunno but I guess the 26 hours I'd been up got me feeling a little cantankerous...... :firedevil

Yeah, that was a scrapper I'd picked up this morning after work. I guess the fact that it was so clean looking and had plates on it just lended itself to some.... um embellishment shall we say? :laugh3:

Yeah, I get the thing home and was about to strip the brand new tires, cat and battery off it and got a wild hair to do some monster truckin'. I'd noted that ALL of my neighbors had left (which is pretty unusual in itself) and the block was just to calm and quiet to NOT take advantage of the opportunity. Yeah, my redneck was showing big time.... :gee:

Funny thing is..... I ran Carnage last weekend, no problems. I crawl up on this car and a LCA joint EXPLODES! I'm sure Carnage weakened it.... but it was just funny that it grenaded doing this. :D

It was totally worth it though! And I'm digging my new motivational poster!

'Krawler joint blew apart. The housing is intact, but the guts are all over. It was uber-flexed when I drove up onto the hood/windshield. Got out to snap a pic and BANG! The thing then lurched over to the pass. side a bit and backwards. I heard something hit the ground - got under it and saw the joint's guts all pulled apart, hanging around the bolt.

I sort of did this same thing. I turned my sprinkler head to aim where my neighbor would park in front of my house, and reset the timer to come on about the same time they had to leave in the morning, and again when they were supposed to return in the afternoon. Plus if I was at home (on weekends or days off and such), and they would leave at random times I would turn them on manually anytime I saw them near their car. They stopped parking there pretty quickly.

Funny stuff!! I backed onto the hood of my neighbors friends car. She time after time kept parking behind my truck ( a crew cab powerstroke on 38"s ) blocking me in...and then coped attitude with me when I asked her politely to move her car.

Well one day I was in a hurry and in a pissed of mood to begin with, and come out to find her parked there AGAIN! I hoped in the truck and drove right up her fender and onto her hood. She called the cops.....and luckily for me Mr. Cop dude was cool as hell and told her tough chit! He had drove by before and noticed the car parked there, so he knew I was telling the truth. She threw a fit and went inside....me and the cop had a laugh or two and slapped me a high five and went on about his business! :D

Turns out, there is one of those (above) Krawler joints on the driver's side LCA at the rear, opposite the one that blew, so I assumed it was just like that one....... but apparently the one (above) is the better/improved version. The one that blew, is this POS:

http://www.extremegearoffroad.com/store/images/T/t-17377-904.jpeg

Apparently the guts are held in place by a snap ring/lock ring and there's several shims behind the lock ring to snug up the bushing..... All that stress being held in by a puny lock ring.............I found another one of 'em was about to let go too. Led gave me 3 other Krawler joints like the one you posted - and replaced one of the POS ones prior to trading it to me. So, I assembled the other 3 new joints and installed 'em. I think these will work much better than the others.

Yup, done did it to all of 'em. Found the replacement bushings too. I pulled the old joints apart (damn near fell apart in my hands) and built the replacements. I'll give these joints a few trail runs and see if I like 'em before I go dropping the coin on a different style. The replacements have already made a big difference in the noise/ride up front. It's still got a bad or loose heim in the rear somewhere, and the track bar lower heim is definitely bad.
