Just as the title says a little wheeling and a little BBQ'ing!

A little family fun run @ POLE HILL (http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=188)

Coordinating this with Hugothegrunt as he rarely gets off on Saturdays he took this specifically to do some wheeling and meet some new faces off of NAXJA !

So this will be shared event with food, list your group (How many) and what you are going to bring.

We need bratz/dogs, (Fiery cheesy dogs, etc.), buns, side dishes (potato salad, chips, deserts, bring your own drinks. Also need a little table to hold everything, plates, sporks!

1.) Team Skully (4) Cheezy bratz, buns, & grill.

In no way did I chose the geographic location and trail to avoid you at all cost Raptor! :D

I coordinated with Hugothegrunt and picked that one out of a very few minor trails that are even open this time of the year. There is not a lot open down south and the popular Eagle Rock is a little far for him and he wants to re-gain his momentum before doing a harder trail. Pole Hill end of May might be perfect with a little snow a lot of trail and some fun obstacles.

You know I am not the only one that can start and setup trails and events right? You are more than welcome to set a date and trail? :lecture:

I promise Raptor I will get you on the next one or maybe the one after that, or maybe the one after that................:D

You should be just fine, Pole Hill is not too hard and that was the point. Come June I have plans for Spring Creek, Wheeler Lake, and then get MSV/Coney Flats Combo & Red Elephant/Mill Creek/ Bill Moore combo out of the way before my new little one hits!

Have you ever driven through Boulder on HWY 36 on a Sat. ?

I was thinking for most meet at the McDonald's off of I-25 at the exit of HWY 66, that way all the far southerners will have a meeting place and we can meet them there and then all Caravan up. We could meet at 9:00-9:30? However we have a bunch coming from the south and a XJ-Grin from the springs, what a drive, makes me feel bad there? .........well not really. :D (Glad you are coming there Chris!)

i was just suggesting that since there are a few people in Westminster and the promenade is easy to find.

im fine with meeting everyone at the starbucks on 120th and I25 and then caravaning up to 66 if that ends up being the plan.

doesnt really matter to me.

.40CalPatriot
May 14th, 2009, 12:44
The trick to boulder is not to follow 36 when it turns into 28th. You take the baseline exit and go around the backside of the campus.
But if I-25 and 120th is the spot I dont mind meeting there either.

There is no McDonald's at I-25 and Hwy 66, it's at Hwy 119 & I-25, one exit south

I'd suggest the final meet point be at the U-Pump-It gas station almost in Lyons on Hwy 66 west of Hwy 36 from Boulder. They have a larger parking lot and gas was $2.12 9 today as I passed by.
I will bring (12 pack) cold root beer :cheers:and maybe(?) some b-day cake.

There is a McDonald's at exit #240 then you go north on I-25 one more exit which is HWY 66. I was not detailed enough. :gag:

Most on the north end will meet up and head north out of north metro Denver then we can all meet at the place you mentioned!

Mike you beat me to it. If you guys wanna meet at the Mickey D's thats cool it's only 2 miles from my house and as far as parking space there is a large Trucker's parking lot right next to it, and gas at the Circle K was $2.15/gal today. Or what Mike said about Lyons works too.

If we choose Mickey D's on I-25 & 119 here are the directions for those not familiar with the area:

I-25 North to exit 240 (Hwy 119)
turn left (west) to the next stop light
this is also the on ramp to South Bound I-25
turn left (South) on to on ramp
then turn in the 2nd entrance on right at Mcdonalds
the Truckers Parking Lot is further up the ramp on the right
Circle K is the 1st entrance for those that need gas

I just PM'ed Skully and apparently he is not on-line right now, but here is my thoughts on this and I expressed the to Skully in the PM.

I'm totally fine with switching to Bill Moore, last year I went with Skully, JAWA, and XJBoy and I was felling under the weather and the bouncing didn't help so I left. I would love to finish the trail.

However this was started by Skully on behalf of me. Ever since I've been on this forum I have not seen any norther trips arranged, they have been all around the Denver Group or the CoSpg Group, and rightfully so as there are more members in those areas. So I wanted to do a Northern Trip for those that live up north as I do, so I could meet some of the members up here. I'm very shocked to see how many southern folks have committed to this run, that is very cool . So now this trip is bigger than I ever expected and have drawn a group from all over, again, way cool! And we have alot of experienced wheelers that want some excitement, which I totally understand, but it 's started to look like this trip has evolved in to a "Family Fun Run" and I would hate to exclude anybody because they were committing to a Family run and we went and changed it to something that they, or their wives, or whatever no longer feel comfortable doing. Thats my only concern, so speak up if you have any reservations about the trail change, again I'm cool with the change, I would like to meet more members, not just the northern folks, but that was the intentions of this run, and I would like to do some trails up here but that can happen anytime.

:soapbox: over.

Totally understand and agree -- as I pointed out in another thread, Pole Hill is something anyone can run in a Subaru, but I don't want to throw a wrench into family time either (my boys will be with me)... Whatever everyone wants to do, I believe we will be in for the ride...:peace:

Well I helped Hugo put this together taking advantage of his one in a very great while Saturdays off to have a nice event/get together for everyone to meet new faces somewhere in our natural habitat.

I choose Pole Hill for;

A.) there are not a lot of trails open this time of the year and those that are open some are still not entirely passable all the way, ie; Spring Creek.

B.) I have never ran Pole Hill and being a 3-4 rated trail with snow might make for a little challenge if there was snow.

C.) Even though Hugo has a bad arse XJ he wants to not run anything too heavy until he gets his wings, gears and a locker.

I have been thinking about it for the last week and wondering if I choose a too wimpy of a trail for everyone? Even Jim has rocker guards and armor now and I do not want people to be bored with Pole Hill.

Bill Moore / Mill Creek is a little harder (although never ran Pole Hill to really compare it) and still centralized for the northern guys and not too much of a stretch the other way.

Ultimately it is up to all those who have committed and what you guys want to do. I would hate to piss off anyone by changing it unfortunately it is hard to please everyone.

So I am up for either as they are the same in either direction for me and all those in the Thornton/Westminster/Arvada area. Will say though that Mill creek could have snow and impassable up until June/July.

All those that committed speak your mind!

XJ Grin you still going if it is Pole Hill? (sounded like it?)

I've been sitting on my hands because I really don't know if I can make this trip.

IF I get to go, I'd rather run boring 'ol Pole Hill. I ran Bill Moore twice at the end of last year. Jeremy still talks about the second, the snow was a biatch.

something harder could be more fun... but i was really excited about enjoying the nice warm weather (maybe running without doors), and seeing another run up this direction. i'd love to run bill moore, its on the to-do list this year. but i really dont feel like messin with the snow thats gonna be up there.

Personally I would rather leave it at pole hill considering I still will not have my new engine in and dont want to push the jeep too hard. But then again Bill Moore is not too bad most of the hard parts have little bypasses. I am thinking that unless it has been really hot up there we will not get to far up Bill Moore and when there is alot of snow and water in Mill Creek there are some pretty thick nasty muddy spots. I hit Bill Moore every year and usually I have to wait to mid june for the snow to melt to make it all the way to the lake.

I'm going to be in a 99 country stocker. So I have a posi in the rear D35, skids and a small lift. It also has slightly bigger tires on it. Other than that it is stock. It is also a manual and I do not drive it very often, so I maybe a bit rusty wheeling a manual. With that being said, as long as I don't have to trash my wifes jeep, I'm down for any tail the group is wanting to run, as long as it is not too difficult.

you should be fine. With good tire placement you wont drag on anything. And I have also seen a old lady wheeling in a group all the way to the lake at Bill Moore in a stock Tracker.

That is cool I think we will confirm a time and meeting place for the Pole Hill and then see about the after trails later. XJ-Grin did not commit to amount of time he has for the day but Pole Hill once up to the meadow and lunch from what I see from the map is not a lot going back down and out. Ironclads is not too hard but going south and then a little west, haven't confirmed that yet but we can confirm later once some others chime in!

Hugo and I have the main course committed but people need to bring chips and some deserts....................Rick with his brownies so the rest if you want to post up using the list of what you are going to bring that way we could avoid maybe 5 bags of doritos? :jester:

That is what I was saying XJboy could help with or anyone else. Is everyone going to eat a brat & a hamburger or should we just have hamburgers? I asked that question once and no one answered? To keep it simple we can do hamburgers all around with plenty of side dishes, chips etc.

So here is the list again and this time I will put on the side what you should bring. Now that Rangerrick backed out we need another camp stove or two.

I think xjnco was going to bring drinks and chips or something. I was hoping they would get on here before tomorrow and chime in on what they were going to bring.

I have 18 sirloin burgers right now, do not know how many you are planning on bringing Hugo, we do not need much more if you bring 12 or so. I definitely hope xjboy and time2getdirty bring their grills my little two burner with pans will fry up 6 burgers at a time, so more is needed!

Another note my 7 1/2 month prego wife is coming, so I will not be running another trail after Pole Hill as if my Jeep bounces more than 2-3 times in a 5 second period I will not hear the end of it! :D

You were not very good in math were you Crimson? Where did you get 39.25? It is 28.25 (.25 is my 18 month old, not a full size person yet. :) )

It is actually 28.25 and potential for 30-33 depending on last minute dudes.

I took the drive to the meeting spot in Lyons, it takes about 15 min from Hwy 287 & Hwy 66 to the U-Pump-It in Lyons. On Skully's link the star is in front of the Diamond Shamrock on the Left (south) side of the road, the U-Pump-It is a little further up on the Right (north) side of the road. The gas prices were $2.31/gal there today.

I picked up some more hamburgers and buns today so I'll have 20 total, with Skully's 18 I think were in good shape.

I came across a gas grill at my mom's so I'll bring that too.

Can't wait for tomorrow, see you all there.

If anyone wants to meet up at the McDonalds off I-25 and Hwy 119 in Longmont then convoy to Lyons let me know by midnight/ midnight:thirty. I live right by there and can show the way to Lyons.
