I have an 86 xj with a clunking noise from the front axle passenger sid when engaged and im getting new rims how do i find out wether i have 5on4.5 or 5on5.5 rims

Bust out a ruler.... and a string/pencil compass.
Its probably 5 on 4.5 unless somebody swapped some stuff before you bought it....

If it is the stock axle, you have 5x4.5.
