Me and one of my wheeling buddies have been wanting a trailer that can haul 2 XJs. It would have to be gooseneck of course, and pretty goddamlong. Just wondering if anyone else here was doing that?

Also will my Ram 1500 4x4 pull it? LOL j/k have a 2000 Ram 3500

I think it was Dan Turner that came to Calico last year with an XJ and CJ? on a big trailer. The truck was a mid 90's 3500 Cummins Diesel Dodge.

i hope you have a dully..we have had 3 jeeps on a 5th wheel pulled by a 99 cummins 3500 5 speed...i believe it had factory 4.10 or 4.11 what ever dodge runs..we have made 4 3hr trips like this...let me tell you the dodge was one thirsty pull truck...i have a 02 f350 w/powerstroke...i have the 100hp bully dog on it cold air intake and 4in exhuast from the turbo out to the back...it pulls my jeep like it wasnt even there getting 18mpg running 75...i 5th wheeled 2 jeeps and was a better load but still pulled awsome getting around 16 mpg then....even if you dont have a dully you should be ok...||charles|| http://i12.tinypic.com/34o6o29.jpg

you could pull 3 XJ's with a 1500 Chevy!!! JK, you should be fine man. But definitely go with a 5th wheel.

Yeah, its a dually and it would be a gooseneck trailer. I was towing a parts truck with my 92 3/4 ton dodge(single wheel) the other day and had a rear tire blow out. HOLY SHIT that was scary while pulling a trailer. Made me really appreciate my dually alot more :)

A SRW F-250/350 can tow a 5th wheel up to 15,700 lbs.

A dually is not necessary but it would be a little nicer.

Like I said earlier I have had a rear blowout in a SRW truck pulling a trailer and holy shit it was scary. I imagine if I was hauling 10K or so I would be dead or at least wishing I was.

Wait til you blow a front...That is FUN! Just hope theres nobody on either side of you!

I agree that a dually is "nicer" from a safety standpoint, but the truth is, if you blow a front tire on a dually the same crap hits the fan.

oh yeah it wont be a problem, we tow a 26 foot trailer on a normal class 3 loaded with tools quads, dirt bikes and jetskis (probably the weight of 2 xjs maybe less) without a problem with a powerjoke f-250. just do it, and make sure you have surge breaks on the trailer

I've pulled my XJ and TRL WGN's on a 33 foot tag behind my 03 2500HD Duramax/Allison. It was no sweat. We weighed the combo at the end of the trip and all together it was a little over 20k pounds. That put the loaded trailer at a little over 13k. I think it would have been easier with a gooseneck, but even as a tag it was no problem at all because the truck was up to the task. This should NEVER be tried with a half-ton, just in case anyone is thinking that might work.
The only problem we ran into was funny in retrospect. For the trip there, we had my rig in the back, facing rearward. The theory was that having the two rigs hatch-to-hatch would be more aerodynamic. When we got there, I noticed that my bug deflector had been ripped away by the wind. Guess it wasn't designed to handle reverse at 75 miles an hour!

True, but when towing a good majority of the wieght in on the rear tires this making them the culptrits to blow out.

I bet a a tag trailer that long was a bitch to turn around in tight places lol. Thats one reason I wanted to go gooseneck is for the extra manuverability(sp?) since you can put the truck 90* to the trailer if needed. I would go tag though if I found a good deal on a trailer. I would have to replace my hitch as the PO took the factory one off and put some draw tight cheeser on there only rated for 8K.

It was long - no doubt about that. But it was surprisingly maneuverable. I find that trailers get easier to back and maneuver the longer they are (although I'm sure there's a point of diminshing returns there somewhere). The tag worked out fine, but I'm sure a gooseneck would be a little easier and would pull more smoothly.
