trouble code 45 or p0751

my wifes 97 zj has a code p0751 overdrive code and shifts funny. i know there have been several problems with the shift solenoids in the electronic trannies. does anyone have any info on this or know of anything I can check or test? please help she wants to drive her jeep. I have already replaced the head, and the rod and main bearings thanks to the previous owner. thanks

shift solenoid A:

no power, or dead.

where is shift solenoid A? i know their in the pan. How do i know which one is which? Thanks for your reply.

Anybody out there? Is there a way to test these solenoids?

Could be a problem with it being a zj and a lack of knowledge on that model.

Is the transmission an AW4? If it is, then drop the pan, remove the oil screen, disconnect the three solenoid wire connectors (mark them so you can get them re-attached to the correct solenoids) remove the solenoids from the valve body and test the ohms from the solenoid bracket to the solenoid terminal, should be 11 to 15 ohms, if not replace.

There's not alot of difference between an xj and zj. It is not an aw4. It's 2wd, but thats what she wanted.
