XJ Tranny Question?

When did the "toyota A340H" tranny come available for the XJ?
Was the AW4 4 speed always in them?

The Toyota 03-40 should be the same thing as the AW4.

The AW4 made its debut in the XJ behind the AMC242, in 1987. I don't recall when it was also found behind the AMC150 - but I understand it was there in later years.

The AW4/03-40 is a rather solid slushbox, and should be damn near bombproof behind the AMC150. I've put them through some serious abuse behind the AMC242, and it just laughs at me...
