The new thing is to turn video games into movies, there has been a huge increase in video game movies recently.

Hollywood has run out of movie ideas. There are only so many original ideas you can do, before you start doing remakes, and looking to videogames.

Need I remind anyone of Mortal Kombat I-II and the abomination those movies were? This has bad written all over it. Let's not forget either there is a Dragon Ball Z movie coming out as well.

The Resident Evil movies aren't horrible (mmm, Mila Jovovich), but that's about it. Haven't seen the Marky Mark version of Max Payne yet or that Hitman movie either. They'll be free on tv soon enough(too soon?). Not very high hopes for those.
Waiting for a Halo flick to ruin that games name.

I liked the super mario brothers movie. Though I was just a kid. Still was good. Hey, how much longer until a pokemon movie comes out. Gotta Catch Them All!!!

No, its not a new idea, its just a new fad (The "New thing to do") There have been more movies about video games in the past 2 or 3 years (speed racer, resident evil, max payne, hitman, tombraider, etc.) than there have been in the past decade or so.

Super Mario brothers was good, but I was a small kid when I saw it, so I barely remember it. Double Dragon, I think I know which one that is. Streetfighter, never saw it, don't really care to. Oh, and those are only 3 spread out over a period of time, there were probably 3 new ones that came out in the last 3 months.

I don't know what is worse, turning video games into movies, or movies into video games.....

And how could you forget the movie "Doom" with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson???

Speed Racer wasn't a video game, was it? I know it was a cartoon, but was it also a video game at some point or something?

It should have been a cartoon from the 60's, I didn't think know they had a video game of it too?

Sorry, Speed racer wasn't a videogame, it was a cartoon. The movie reminded me a lot of the video game FZero for N64, thats why.

Mortal kombat 1 wasnt that bad. the 2nd one however totally sucked. And Resident Evil and Tomb Raider have been the best game turned movie. Probably because of the stars. Double Dragon stunk. Mario Brothers was corny. Street Fighter was horrible. I bet no one even knew that Street Fighter: Chun Li came out this year. It didnt stay in theatres but 2 weeks. I hear they want to do Metroid.

the worst of the worst of this genre is street fighter, and super mario brothers

anything by uwe boyle doesnt count, as it isnt even worth mentioning...

what about the live action dragon ball z movie? thank god i despise that kind of anime.... i have friends that are going thru what i went thru circa 2001 w/ star wars episode 1/2
... it sucks to be sold out.

speed racer was cool, if nothing else... i dug the visuals, lots of nice coloring... i wasnt exactly sitting down eating popcorn... but i dont think it deserves to be mocked.
resident evil and its sequels were good.

video game plot lines are allmost allways better, but most require a decent sized 'leap of faith'...

could final fantasy 7 have been as good of a story w/ film? fsk no.
video game to movie is a hard leap.

A repost, but I'm the original poster, so does it count? Just say "Tekken" wherever it prints "Thundercats"

I concur about halo.... though I think the Gears of War movie could actually be pretty kickass.
