Pretty good price.

i called the guy a few days ago and he seems pretty cool.. only thing that detoured me from buying them was that they are pretty stiff and i would prolly lose a lot of flex on the trail..

You wouldn't lose ANY flex on the trail... wtf who told you that? Your jeep is going to flex how it's going to flex. It'll actually give you better control on the trail.

And the spring rate is progressive....

That is a pretty good deal for those springs! I got mine from Eric over at fatcity for like $70 shipped back in the day. Best coils Ive ever had and the ride is nice too!

well when i called him i told him that i am building it to be half go fast and half rock crawling and he said oh then these are probably too stiff for the trail and you will lose flex.. so i didnt buy em...

what do you guys mean when you say progressive? ive heard quite a few people saying it lately and dont know what it means?

tone
April 19th, 2009, 13:58
Progressive means its wound tighter towards one side of the coil like these...

essentially, one end of the spring has a lower spring rate for little bumps and the other a higher rate for the big hits.

Depending on timing/money, I may be interested in your RE 5.5s. I'm running 4.5s with a 1.5" spacer and no isolator, so the 5.5's ought to have me at the same height if I put an isolator back in, then I won't need my spacers.

Jim, are you talking about the Fox shocks you put up for sale a while ago? I remember seeing them and wishing I had money. Then when I had money I didn't think they were still up for sale, now I have no money again...:(

Yea... They're still for sale but not at the same time haha. It'd be sweet to have a buyer lined up as soon as I take them off, but I can't take them off until I get my jeep taken apart ready for the new ones.

i would love to hear more opinions on the deaver coils. i think my rusty's 6.5's are going to be too big for my deaver rears....

WTF? No, they aren't all progressive. Look at Rusty's springs, they don't have one end with coils wound tighter than the other like was previously posted. :lecture:

Take a picture of them and post it here. He may have just bought rustys springs to replace them. My rusty's have the model number on one of the coils.

If you want more lift than Deaver 5.5's then you need to go back to crawling son. Stay low slung and stable...

maybe he wants lift to by pass his bumps.... like some one that is running 6.5" so that his shocks dont bottom out:laugh2:

yea true dat... then i need to lower the rear.. my leafs sit pretty high, so it looks like a stink bug lol... can i just take my leafs out of the shackle and re-drill the hole higher up so that it sits lower? or no?

crazyjim
May 1st, 2009, 00:09
Definitely don't do that. Your springs need significant length on the shackle to be able to flatten out and work. Your only REAL option is to have them restretched by deaver or new springs.

Ryan93
May 1st, 2009, 09:39
or maby a shorter shackle if you already have an aftermarket extended one?

spring under on an XJ?

spring under on an XJ?

Yeah, Most leaf sprung desert rigs, with the exception Jeepspeed run spring under. It allows a softer spring rate to get more travel and helps to eliminate axle wrap with the bigger travel. All the force from torque is spread out to the main leaf directly, rather than on the smallest leaves that will splay open until it gets to the main leaf.

Hope that makes sense...
