My bro's truck needs to be back in NC by the end of April because the tags are going out, as well as the inspection.

I have an expired passport, as of 08 it expired. I got through 6 months ago on a ID and a birth cert. Can I still get through on these? I dont think i will have the time to do a new passport. I need to leave next week at the latest so I can be back to work by the end of april.

I heard they have certain passes or circumstances where you have an aloted time to get through the country and you dont need a passport. Is this true?

You will need a certified copy of your birth certificate.
They will harass you but it can still be done.
A passport only takes three weeks or so to get, got to you local post office.

Here's a link to the "How to Get Your Passport in a Hurry" site from the State Department.
http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_831.html
You may be able to get an in person appointment with a Passport Agency rep.
http://travel.state.gov/passport/about/agencies/agencies_913.html

It'll cost more, but it can be done.
Good luck.

why not just call the DOL/DMV for the state?

I know that while I was in school in Nebraska, my jeep was up for smog. I called DMV, paid my regestration, and `promised to smog the jeep once I got back to CA...

fulfilling my promise... well... :wow:

My jeep is non-opped right now anyway so.... :D

I though you only needed the passport (for CA) if you were flying?

Whats the trip to NC from AK and back going to cost? Might it just be cheaper to register in AK?

That's what I was thinking. Sure you gotta pay for new plates and whatnot, but otherwise you gotta pay gas from AK all the way to NC. Just driving CA to NY would cost me over $500 in gas for our minivan.

Truck is not mine... it is my brothers... I can not register a vehicle that is not in my name. He won't sell it to me because it has "sentimental" value to him. He has my honda and is selling it for me to cover the costs.

Ahh...I was under the impression that your brother was in AK with you and needed to register his truck. Suddenly, everything is clear! :D
