A buddy of mine has recently introduced me to his collection of Indian relics. Some of his stuff is really neat. He's got axes, banner stones, bird stones, hoes, and spades, just all sorts of neat stuff. No, I don't have any pics. He's "old school" and not to internet savy. Anybody got any good stuff to share? I'd love to see some pics if you have them.

I have a few items, a set of plates that were made in India, an old Panasonic cassette player that was made in India, and a copy of Slumdog Millionaire.

I have an entire collection of Zuni fetishes.

I have a talking stick and cheftain staff.

I also have a couple of knives and a hatchet all made of steel and a knife flint-napped out of obsidian.

All are modern day reproductions although the knives and hatchet were made by a local American Indian....

I can get pics later if you would like....

I prefer the ethic of the "outdoor museum". It is ok to seek out indian artifacts, as long as you leave them where you find them. They have much more meaning when admired in-situ than collecting dust in your house.

There is nothing like the thrill of finding a site that has rested silently under the wide blue sky for hundreds of years. Thanks to "collectors" the opportunity will soon be gone.

Tell your friend to carefully store his treasures.
Neighbor where I lived as a kid had a huge(probably over 1000) arrow heads, axe heads, etc he'd picked up in plowed fields over the years. Then his house burned down. The collection probably would have survived the fire if the FD hadn't showed up after the house had burned out and sprayed the place down. All those stone heads shattered from shock cooling.

Alex, I agree with you to a point but it isn't fair to assume what people have was scavanged from ruins or what not. Frankly I get tired of people always jumping to that conclusion. My parents have an old grinding stone that came out of a farmers field. You can't expect someone to turn his property into a national park because of a few pot shards. In fact it would be dumb to plow them under.

You also have to take into consideration what area of the country they are talking about. The whole country isn't the wild west.

Most if not all of his stuff has came from fields and bought from other collectors. His collection is stored very well. Fire is not really a concern.

To the rest of you azzhats, thanks.....you've been an imense help.

Theres is a long mound in the woods behind my house. When we dig ditches or roads we throw dirt to the side or middle. So it would not be wierd except that alot of big tree roots grow over it instead of through it, and it sounds hollow when you walk on it. Thought about digging it up, but havent yet.

We have alot of civil war stuff where I live too.
