*rant on*
So I get this email today from 4WP - buy 3 get 1 free on Pro Comp tires. I'm in the market and would consider them for the right price, but the price is no where near right! They raised the price of their tires for this "sale"! Has anyone else noticed this? The price of a 30/9.5r15 mud terrain is now $158, but it's usually around the same as a BFG mud, about $130. How dumb does 4WP think I am?! There is still a savings, but it's only about $45 off the regular price.

They do raise the prices for the sale. But there are evidently people that fall for it.

Everything they're doing obviously works, seeing as how they are the biggest 4x4 parts supplier in the world.
Care to pick apart their strategy?

so you'd still save $45.
What's the problem, saving money is saving money, it's just not as much as you wanted.

Not to mention the "sevice charge" theyed probably slap on the order cause some lazy ass had to actually get the tires off the shelf and put em on a truck. They suck, last time I used them was about 10 years ago when the added a $15 dollar charge to my CC for handeling. There exploder pro crap parts are shit anyhow.

It's the misleading sale that pi$$ed me off. They are not giving me 3 for the price of 1. I won't buy from them just for that.

don't you mean 4 for the price of 3?
3 for the price of 1 would be a steal......but why would you only buy 3 tires.

Yes, you're so clever for reading the details.
If you haven't lost any money from them or been ripped off, do you really need a "rant"?

Yeah, I do. I think things like this should be pointed out. It's very misleading and someone who didn't know current tire prices might think it's a great deal. Yes, you are saving some green but not as much as you're lead to believe. Raise the price, then put it on sale - it's just not an honest way to do business.

newsflash:
businesses exist to make money. If clever advertising makes money then that's what you do.
It's not 4wp's job to do price research, it's the consumers. You recognized the game, and you refused to buy them, good for you, but this thread is a little lastara and a whole lot :rattle:

Yes it's a play on numbers. We sell them to dealers for $107.03 each. They in turn have to sell them for $157.99 or more to the consumer to qualify for the promo. The purpose is to get dealers to push the Procomp tire line. They can really sell them for anything as long as the paper work shows the magic numbers.

I've bought two sets of Pro Comps during those 4 for 3 sales. Each time I asked to speak to the manager and told them I'd buy if they'd actually sell them for the previously advertised "normal" price per tire. Each time they've done it.
I know Pro Comps aren't real popular, but I gotta say, for the money they're a good tire. I've put mine thru some plenty nasty 'wheeling and can't complain about side wall durability. My old set chunked the tread pretty bad toward the end, but they still had much better traction than anyone's BFG muds I wheeled with.

From what I've read, ProComp tires are made by Cooper - I've always liked Cooper tires myself. Most complaints seem to be regarding the sidewall strength of the MTs as compared to the BFGs. I don't wheel hard enough to worry about that, so I think they're a decent tire. I just don't think they should be priced as high as the BFGs. What I do like about the ProComps is the siping - something you don't usually see on an MT. Hopefully that would give it better wet and ice traction. Four 33's for $350 sounds like a good deal to me.

You call it clever, I call it sneaky. If I wrote a gay thread and look like a crybaby, I'm OK with that. I was annoyed and it helped to get it off my chest. It's a nice day today, I'm going wheeling. :)

I could be wrong, but don't you work there? I could swear I saw a post that you where a parts or wrench monkey there?

Point being?
Haven't been there since July.
Hence the "they're, they, and their" in my statement.
AND since I don't work there, it would be a conflict of interest for me to say anything bad about them, anymore.
