ext idle?

I believe that is a function in the later xj models for emergency vehicles or any other use where the vehicle needs to idle with high power draws for an extended time period.
 
It does nothing for your XJ. But if you would, could you send me your switch and your bezel?


But on a serious not, Joe has it right. It raises the idle so that the alternator works more efficiently, and turns the fan on so there is no overheating.
(But if you seriously want to send it to me, that would be great)
 
I don't know what it would do at anything above idle?

Anybody else?
 
It only activates the high idle when in Park or Neutral. As soon as you shift it into gear, the high idle function is disabled (despite the fact that the indicator light remains illuminated.)
