Well, I just found out that I will be moving to Maryland in the next couple months, around the Waldorf area I believe. Having lived in the southwest for the majority of my life (15+ years, and I'm 20) I know nothing about the area. How is the wheeling there, and where are the places to go? Anything I should look out for as far as legality goes driving my lifted xj? In arizona anything really goes with only mudflaps being an occational issue on hugely lifted rigs. Any and all info is very greatly appreciated, XJ related or not. Thanks for your help guys.

as far as the roads go, im not sure. you can check state laws online, however up here in the north east, there really arent a lot of public land to wheel on, actually there is about none. there are some private lands to wheel on and plenty of unused trails in the mountains (however, this may be considered illegal) its fun up here, but cold in the winters

the only thing i can really think of is tires sticking out past the flair, they usually aren't too big on it unless it's near quota time or a big weekend with a lot of tourists....im not really familiar with waldorf as i usually live in Bel Air (north of Baltimore), but right now im at VT. So i can't help you much with wheeling, should mostly be trails, with a small mix of rocks and mud, nothin TOO extreme unless you go looking for it. Hope that helps. Maybe we'll catch up when i get home for summer.

Thanks for the info so far guys. Where I live at now really dosen't have any good spots to go wheeling at anymore because the new housing market is booming so much here that everything is being leveled to build houses on. So hopefully I can find somewhere local to wheel in Maryland. I've read a little about Paragon, and a place called Raush Creek which I think are both in PA. I'm a little concerned about the cold coming from AZ (it was 101 degrees today) but at least it will be a nice contrast to extreme heat. Keep em coming!

Hey thanks, I'd be interested in meeting up with anybody because I won't know anybody when I get there. It would be nice to meet some fellow jeepers. The type of wheeling you describe is what I'm really looking forward too. I've wheeled the desert so much that im plain sick of it, and I've always wanted to do more forest trail type wheeling.

Awesome man thanks for the invite. I'll be sure to shoot you a pm when I get up there. Looking to be mid to late december or early january at the latest. Also, any general info you can think of that I should know about Maryland? Everybody has told me to say out of Baltimore, and Washington D.C. if at all possible.

Waldorf is a good area. Look to move a little south or west for best prices on homes and a little larger tracts of land to own. I live 23 miles south of waldorf. The local clubs are the Off Camber Crawlers based in Alexandria VA and the Hard Rock Crawlers (HRC) in lexington park. HRC has members in all three of the surrounding counties. Look us up on Hardrockcrawlers.org.
There is also KGB, maryland creepers, poor boys clubs in the near Vicinity as well.
As to wheeling, most places are out of state. most average about 150 miles or so. There are 4 spots we (HRC) frequent including; Gore Va (Near Winchester va), Rousch creek, paragon, and Crozet Va (near charletsville va). We also host 2 family runs a year and a long distance trip, we call it, to sites like tellico, Harlan Ky, as examples. There are some mud running opportunities in the southern counties, but mud gets old quick.
Local laws are pretty tight. the usual fender over the rubber, and a height limit on both the front bumper and headlights to the ground.
Look us up when you get in town, we hold monthly meetings and usually have events going on every month all year round. We connect with all the local clubs through the Virginia 4WD Association.

Yea your right. I'm not personally in the military, but my dad is. So that is the reason behind that area and our move to Maryland. But I have to ask why you say to shop around a little... its hard to find any real information other than crime rates, statistics, and such for the area.

Thank you very much for the detailed info on the clubs and laws. I'll definetly be looking for a local club to get involved with since there is no better way to learn the area. This move is going to be huge for my family, but is a much needed change. Maryland seems to be like a nice place to live, and is a huge change of pace from AZ. As for my XJ, I'm sitting at 4.5" of lift now, and don't forsee myself going more than 5.5, or 6", so do you have any idea if that will be an issue?
