Damn, I bought mine two years ago for 450.

The CSX has the barometer and electric compass. Two features I never use. I would think long and hard if you need those two features and let that make the decision for you.

I have the CS, use it on my motorcycle, the only issue I have with it is it does not have a removable media card.

I was in your EXACT same situation about a month ago. Somewhere online there is an article comparing the 60CSx to the Etrex Vista HCx (both made by Garmin).

It was nearly a $100 difference in price on amazon.com, and the Vista has every feature included in the 60CSx.

http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-eTrex-Vista-HCx-High-Sensitivity/dp/B000PDR1LS/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1238616327&sr=8-1

Even after comparing the two in person, the Vista was MUCH easier to use (especially with one hand), has significantly better battery life, and screen brightness.

All in all, I would strongly urge you to consider the Garmin Etrex Vista HCx, mine is awesome. But regardless, I'd go to a local sporting goods store and play around with both of them...to each, their own.

...and while the price difference seems relatively small, once you cough up the extra $80-$100 for the Topo maps, City Navigator maps, or whatever your application calls for, you have to save where you can.

Good luck.

I bought a CSx a few months ago. As mentioned above, plan on getting the topos. The whole US is about $100.00.

Find someone with the CD's for the topo program. Garmin doesn't put any copy protection on them (oops, did I say that out loud?):shhh:

i can just buy a few 2 gig memory cards and download them to my unit... then store em on the card maybe... or rip the information off the disc like you would a regular data disc =)

anyone got any cd's for garmin units in the california area?!
