Here I am in the nations capital and my jeep sticks out like a sore thumb. Havent seen one XJ since ive been here, only grand cherokees with low profile tires haha. Anyways, just writing to say i miss good ole colorado... but will be back by this weekend.

So, as many of you know FrankZ and i recently did the lebaron hood vent mod on my jeep. So heres an update. Alot of people were concerned with water being exposed to the engine/spark plugs/distributor. Well, Its been raining here non stop for the last 2 days, i mean.. MONSOON, and my jeep has started up perfectly each time. Also, on my drive out here I had no problems with my engine overheating like it used to do in the past. I was pushing 80mph the whole way and the temp guage never went above normal. HUGE improvement from previous trips across the U.S. where my jeep would overheat on a regular basis.

Anyways, missing the mountains and the trails. Taking the jeep down the the beach tomorrow and planning on taking it on some of the 4wd beachs and will get some pics. See you all in a week! :fuse:

I don't know why folks are so worried about hood vents and water.... I haven't seen one post about them being responsible for any damage/no-start issues. It would take A LOT of water to cause any problems.

Definitely a modification that provides much more of a benefit than a problem.

I just put a set on mine and it has rained and snowed here in GJ a couple of times in the last week or so. I havent' had any problems yet either. I did have some problems with starting after I took it through our Automatic Car Wash at work. I think it has to do with the undercarriage wash though!

I have had mine in for about a year now! No problems with rain snow ect!! My engine gets power washed several times a year which gets more water on it that the hood vents let in.

No beach wheeling... turns out you need a town permit now to drive on the beach in the outerbanks of NC. What a load of crap. So, i say the hell with driving on the beach, lets go FISHING! so i go to the bait shop, get some blood worms and head to the beach to see if i can reel in something for dinner. I toss my line in, get a few nibbles and came up empty handed. I see a beach patrol cruiser coming down the beach about 50 yards from where i was fishing and kept on with my merry business. He pulls up and asks me for my permit. I said "permit? im fishing on the beach. Since when did you need a permit to fish on the beach?" He says "since last summer, may i have your ID please?"... Now, here i am... an Ex-Native that used to live on these islands and have been coming to them since i could walk. Surfed my first wave on these beaches, and have spent many nights parked there on the sand in my jeep with a line in the water, drinking a cold one... and here i am potentially getting a ticket for doing something that used to be free.

Turns out the guy was a Colorado native. Got sick of the mountains and moved to the coast in search of a better life. He also took a liking to my new baitcaster rod and reel. He let me off, but only by a hair.

So, whats happening to our country? Why do i need a special license to drive on the beach when i have been doing it since i was 16? Why do i need a license to fish on a beach, when the water is international territory? Why do i need one this summer and not last summer?

What are we going to have left for our children? Are our beloved recreational activities going to survive the taxing and licensing processes? Whats going to happen to wheeling? Is it the state trying to take advantage of our sports, or is it idiots that take advantage of them and screw them up for everyone else?

Anyways, we're heading back to Colorado tomorrow morning and i cannot wait to get back. DOnt get me wrong, i love my home town, but i cannot stand the changes that have been made. Not only the fishing license and the driving on the beach thing, but the amount of traffic now is awful. Everyone seems so angry and upset about something. People here LIVE to WORK, not WORK to LIVE. Its all material out here, and what you drive, and who you know. Its just not "real" anymore. Just a cardboard cut out of what I used to know as "home".

Anyways, see you all in a few days. :peace:
