View Full Version : How did your tires do in the snow?

Though it might be interesting to see what kind of tires people have on their rigs, and how they did in the snow. I have TrUxS STS's on mine, and they did really well. I pulled a couple people out of ditches and they never really slipped. When all the snow was melting yesterday I went through a couple patches of water going about 55mph on the highway. They hydroplane very easily.

My MTRs seemed to do okay. I didn't slide into any ditches or other cars, so I guess that's worth a .

Had Bridgestone Dueler Revos and they did very well in the snow and much better than the Goodyear wranglers I used to have.

My Irok Super Swampers gripped like crazy, they didn't slip once on me while accelerating, turning, or braking. I was only able to make them lose grip once and that was on a 90* turn in second gear and full throttle. My Jeep made my friends Subaru look like crap.

How do they ride? Do you have the "E" load rated version?
I am considering a set of 32" for my XJ.

Trxus M/T last three winters great traction in the snow and ice. Just wish they made a 32 11.50 or 33 x 10.50 on a 15 inch rim. They do have a 32 in a 16 inch rim................:dunno:

Dueler A/T Revo is the cat's ass in the snow. Now if they just made it in a 33". Best alternative is the BFG A/T

Probably the best tire I've ever driven in the snow (that wasn't a dedicated snow tire).

Running those on the JK, they did pretty good. I didn't get a chance to play much though. Handled well so far.

BFG AT's did very well. up here in Westminster we got the brunt of the storm and I drove around primarily in 2 wheel drive. Some of the roads I was driving on had 1 to 2 feet drifts in the second lane that ran for miles. It was fun running those lanes.

I've searched the same thing for the same reason. The response on the KM2 in snow was great, BUT, these tires do not work well aired up to anything over 30lbs. Most guys were unhappy with them until they found the tires love to run 25-28lbs on the street. At that air pressure, they guys who were unhappy said its now thier favorite tire. And 9-12lbs worked best on the trail.

You might find that in 2wd the XJ won't do well. I know mine doesn't, no matter which tire I've run. I've run X-Terrains, MT/Rs, and BFG A/Ts, and think they all did really well. I do believe the XJs are just really good in the snow once you're in 4wd.

I was happy with my new KM2's they griped real good in the snow and packed snow. Not so much in the Ice but what does (short of chains) I 2 pulled several people out of ditches and never had to spin a tire. One poor lady slid down in the middle of the cloverleaf at Powers and platte ran out about 35 feet of strap and pulled her right up the slope:yelclap:.
All and all very happy. these are my first set of Mud tires I've always run BFG at's but the KM2's are close if not just as good in the snow/ice.

i worked at discount tire for a while so i know a little about tires. when it comes to snow the more tred you have like for example a mtr or a km2 the better it is going to be in deaper snow and what not, but when it comes to slush and water spots an all terrain is the way to go because the tire comes from the factory with alot more sipping! hope i helped a little!!!

I've got 31x10.50 Mastercraft courser C/T's. I was rockin it during this last snow in Denver. only slid once while breaking. Otherwise absolutely zero issues and lots of happiness.

Sorry but my Jeep with the rear locker and 36" IROK's did just fine in 2wd, I still switched it into 4wd later on just for piece of mind before getting on I25. Still, on the Frontage Roads and around my neighborhood it was great in 2wd.

Mine sucks in 2wd, especially when locked. I do have very little weight in the back, but I don't think it would make a difference.
No need for sorry, I did say you might find.

I was surprised at how well ours did with nearly bald tires when we first bought it. I think the limited slip made the difference in our case....and I've been driving snow and ice for about 3 decades now.

Yeah, I do have about 200lbs in tools and recovery gear in the back of mine. What can I say, it helps make my Jeep sit level. :D

The BFG AT's on my truck do OK, however do not shead the snow as much as I would like. However I do have to remember they are an AT.
Last Tuesday I just put on ProComp Xtreme MTs. Lugs have a slight stipe in them and of course due to this fact had to play Thursday night and Friday. All I can say is WOW! Thursday around town on the ice gripped extreme well only could get them to slid once and that was when I forgot I was in the Jeep and it does not have antilock. In the snow Friday, they cut through everything. 3 foot drifts to the slush in on the corner with and threw the snow like crazy. When pulling in the garage there was not single lug that held snow. Keeping the garage much dryer. They are tons better then the BFG MT's or the Dunlop MT's I have most resently ran. Looking forward to seeing how they do on rock (have heard good) and also the tread life. Much quieter also, as if the jeep is quiet...

BFG AT KO (siped) (2000 XJ): Wonderful.
===
Bridgestone AT REVOs (1999 WJ 4.7L AWD): Awful!
Maybe it was because the V8 was too powerful and also because I have a lead foot.
Stopping was okay, but I would slide all over when trying to accelerate.
