Reading another thread reminded me of my near miss, anyone else have any first hand firearm mishaps or close calls?

I've only come close to an accident once. Some buddies invited me to go hunting on one of their uncles property. Turns out the uncle had sold the property and the owners called the cops. The cop didn't announce that he was there, and As I led a bird I saw the cop down the end of my barrel. Not a smart cop, and he came verrrrrrry close to catching some lead.

lesson: Do not approach a hunter/party of hunters without making your presence known.

lesson2: Make DAMN sure the guy who is taking you hunting actually knows where he's going and that the owner is aware of your presence.

My sister once shot me in the face with a fire extinguisher – does that count?

Used to be pretty heavy into skeet shooting. Mixed alcohol and skeet on a buddy's farm in Maryland. Got angry when we were leaving to drive back to the house and didn't bother putting my gun in it's case. With two 12 gauge Nitro 8's still inside I tossed and one went off. Putting a very large hole in the bed of a guy's F-150... Haven't touched a gun since...

Good, one less idiot with a gun giving the responsible people bad names.

Many "moons" ago a friend (his name is Ron btw) of my dad's was hunting on private property that he and my father both had PERMISSION to hunt on. It was bow season and Ron was walking to his treestand a little before sun up just to get set and someone who did NOT have permission to be there was sitting in his stand and obviously couldn't see well cause it was still dark and put an arrow right through Ron's liver. Ron has NOT been even remotely healthy since. Has liver spots all over his skin. Really sad. That's why people need to NOT trespass and NOT shoot until you can see what you're shooting at.

On a side note the guy who shot Ron was completely and truly sorry. Cooperated w/ the Conservation Officers fully and accepted full responsibility.

I feel the same way. When I was a kid my dad basically put me through hunter ed/gun safety boot camp, and it stuck. I don't get some people and their lack of common sense when hunting or shooting. Asshats...

No 'accidents' or near misses here. I only hunt/shoot with people who have good decision-making skills and think of safety first.

There is no such thing as a hunting/shooting 'accident' involving firearms/weapons.
