So, Tueday morning I started with this:

was about 8:30 am in Pegram, TN. Just 40 hours before that I had Wal-mart pull the balancing bead and rebalance the tire. I only had them do that one tire. As I was getting into Pegram on my way to Dickson. I noticed the Jeep rideing a little funny, so I pulled over and saw this:
http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh68/trailratethis/SNC00031.jpg

I started searching for something in the tire, but couldn't find anything. Since I couldn't find anything in the tire I decided to check the valve stem. As soon as I touched the valve stem it separated at the rim. I call wal-mart and give them the opportunity to fix this. They tell me it will be my dime now, but to have the repair shop call them when they get done bring them the invoice. I get towed a mile down the road to the repair shop, they pull the tire, replace the valve stem, air it back up and find this:

So now I have to get a new tire. I call my wife to come rescue me so I can get a new tire. I get the new tire from 4Wheel Parts in Nashville. Get back get the tire put on, and I am on my way. I get to Wal-mart in Lewiburg where the work was done and they just want to fight me now. The head of the car shop is asking me how long I drove on the tire for it to do that. There was no marks on the sidewalls of the tire at all, so not long at all. The bigger Mgr. comes out and starts telling me all they did was balance a tire and thier machine gets nowhere near the valve stem and it was several days ago. What a bunch of liars.

I had to inform him that I was not stupid, they didn't just balance a tire, I know the steps involved in breaking down a tire, they had plenty to do with the valve stem, and it was not several days ago.

I'm still waiting to get ahold of thier claims dept to get reembursed.

$50 for tow
$200 for new tire, mount, and balance.
loss of a days work

Never haveing Wal-mart touch another vehicle of mine

PRICELESS

fire.... lots of it.... walmart problem solved :D

ive had similar experiences with quicke stop oil changes and walmart... one time i told them to change my trans fluid and they used their exchanger at the cooler fitting, they didnt tighten the cooler fitting back up when done. 20 miles down the road started driving funny, found it and tightened it had to add three quarts. Noody touches my vehicles but me or just jeeps here in knoxville

Can't see the pics, but sorry to hear. What causes the strange wavy issue with the sidewall?

I had Wal-Mart balance tires on my old Subaru. Driving down the road, one of the hubcaps came off and flew into the median.

When I took it back the manager apologized and told me they'd reimburse me for the hubcap.

Let me guess you scored a set of those pimp spinner hub caps didn't you.

I was going to, but my girlfriend veto'd that idea. I've always wanted a set of spinners.

Who is the one starting the DIY shop, Hurry up lol. I dont take my bad junk to the Wal-Mart anymore. They over filled the oil in my wifes Taurus, hit a cement pole with my friends Ram, over serviced my xj, and all of them are in denile.

Wal-Mart never makes a mistake. Haven't you guys figured that out yet. Michelin never builds a bad tire either.

Broken belts from driving on it flat I'm assuming...

to the OP... seriously how long did you run it flat.. it had to be for a while... OR short distance completely flat.

BFG's are great on the road, light wheeling but their sidewalls are weak (see above as example).

I know everyone else is thinking it, but I'm gonna say it.....it would have saved you alot of time and money if you had a spare.

i have only once ever taken a car to walmart... my wifes previous saturn POS car to change the oil or replace a tire or something not sure... long time ago. didnt have a whole lot of choice but i refrain from letting any $8 hr "mechanic" touch anything i own.

i might take it to a specialty shop though... one that i trust and heard good things about, but never walmart

I've got a spare. I use it only as a trail spare. I don't have a good way of carrying it. I need a rear tire carrier.

Mark, thanks for the offer. You gave me the rim that's on my trail spare.

I've still gotta swap over my 31" to my spare. I'll have a spare 32" laying around too, if anyone needs/wants it. BFG A/T, I think.
