I'm a card carrying member, and not a communist, thank you -- if you want liberty, you have to deal with people exercising liberties you don't agree with. Does the ACLU defend some seriously sickened people, IMHO - damn right they do. But the sole purpose of the ACLU is to actually DO what every politician in office swears to, and then doesn't -- defend the constitution and the bill of rights.

It should make you puke, she is obviously a piss-poor example of a parent. Your question about the "kids" rights opens up the "when does life begin" questions, which contrary to your socially conservative religious views, which you are clearly entitled to hold, is not a settled question among the american population. If you're right, yeah, that is an action that harmed another person and she should be punished under the law. Reaching that conclusion requires several steps (1) the fetus is a "child" (2) taking cocaine in the quantities she did in fact harmed her fetus... etc.

If you want to have the right to worship as you choose (or not at all), and to carry a weapon to defend yourself and your family, you must tolerate people who want the right to ruin their lives and make awful decisions. I weep for children damaged by idots like that lady, but I can't endorse the collectivist attitude that we should make her choices for her.

I am proud of being a member not because I endorse condone pregnant women using drugs -- its a shitey choice. I am proud of being a member because even though I hate Illinios nazis, I love that in this country they are free to be as stupid as they choose, as long as they harm noone else. If I ran the ACLU I might make different choices as to which suits to pursue, but the goal would be the same -- freedom and liberty for all, even the incurably stupid.

I know that you and I disagree, and that is largely because I have absolutely no social agenda from government, but just liberty, while you have a more traditional Republican socially conservative agenda -- we can agree to disagree.
