Thankfully the local junkyard had an XJ I could get the little pin-ball lever off of.

Yeah yeah yeah. :spin1:

So I put it back in today after cleaning it up as per the links that have the how-to, and the reverse lights still don't work. I noticed whoever I bought it from has 2-stage bulbs in the reverse lamp. Would they still light up if it had the 2-stage bulb instead of the single stage? I can't find the appropriate bulb number anywhere.

Having no NSS on the 5 speed is a great thing to have when the clutch pedal snaps or the clutch fork springs snap and the fork falls down when you are 40 mins from home.

It did fine, just match put a little pressure on it and try to match the rpm, it will go right in. If it doesn't and you are trying to merge on the highway, begin cursing and push harder. It works like a charm.

Actually, the proper bulb (according to the part store it was 3156) didn't fit which is...odd. After holding the button on the shifter and railing it from Park to 1-2 and back to Park a few times, they work without fail now. Score one for me!

Now I just need wheel bearings, tie-rods, and a muffler. :(

I was having problems with my Jeep no starting, suspected it was the NSS. Had the tow truck at my house because I couldn't start it for 2 days (this was pre me knowing what the hell I was doing on my Jeep), went to show the tow truck guy, started right up. Went to drive to my mechanics, found out they were gone when I got there, and it wouldn't start again. I punched my shifter forward pretty hard, and it didn't give me any problems since. I guess they just need a littler persuading at times.

I fortgot how my Dad and I wired it but we just by-passed the system when he broke the case taking it off. Now the whole system is switched and it starts in any gear. While doing the wiring I stole power from one light to run a fog so I went from no reverse lights to 3!

It seems that way.
