That's what I currently do - 62bucks for a day with insurance to rent a u-haul trailer

Then there's the title, registration, insurance, maintenance, storage space if not at home, etc.
Renting isn't all bad; the Uhaul trailers just suck for anything not a midsize sedan.

and they ask you all those questions about whats pulling what. They wouldnt let me pull my eclipse with the Jeep. They said It had to be a bigger truck. Lame

Being in KY, if it's not for commercial use you do not have to have license on it. But, if you buy a trailer I suggest getting insurance on it, because the trailer is not covered by your collision or comp on the tow vehicle only liability.
Buddy happened to get run off the road and totalled his trailer and he got ram rodded by the insurance.

I have room and stuff, I have the Commander to pull it so thats not the issue. I dont want to have to worry about making a long drive to go wheeling and breaking!

That's why I carry a lot of seemingly unnecessary stuff and wheel the way I do. My XJ is capable of a lot of things I don't do since I have to drive it everywhere.
On the other hand, I may have access to a 85 Dodge W350 and 20' trailer soon, so we'll see then ;)

Rent or own....
Hmmm
I went the uhaul route for a few years.
I really like having my own trailer.
If you are going to pull it with anyhting less then a 1/2 ton....go light wieght....that means $$

I just made the switch last year...
I LOVE it... Im not going back......
My plates are like $60 a year... My insurance is about $40 a year.....
Maintenence is next to nothing if kept up on.....
Just make sure you get something with trailer tires and not car tires....

Neither was my Jeep though!
There looks to be quite a few old car haulers on craigslist in this area for 500-3000 bucks.

I looked at every single used car hauler I could find around here for nearly a year. By the time I got them in a shape I would feel good about having it on the road, I was within a few dollars of getting one new from a dealer. I bought mine about this time last year and it sat on the dealer lot for a year. They made me a really good deal to get it out of there.

They are actually headquartered in my town and have a showroom where you can buy direct without paying shipping costs. I've bought all sorts of goodies from them and can't say enough about their selection, prices & customer service.
