what is the spline count on the superior super 8.8 kit? 28 spline or 31 spline?

I am gonna say i saw 31 somewhere. I thought the 8.8 was a 30 spline to begin with!

well in mustangs they start out as 28 and most people upgrade to 31 i am not sure about the explorer

31 spline. There is no such thing as a 30 spline F8.8.

Its 31 spline, all it does is eliminate the c-clip and make it about an inch wider.
8.8 C-clips don't break, and on an XJ stock width is fine.
You can get alloy 8.8 shafts for a lot less, but on 35's and smaller the stock shafts almost never break.

my 8.8 has stock shafts, is locked, 5:13 gears, and im running 38s. im pretty hard on it, with no problems

or you can get the moser 33 spline shafts with c-clips emils but i duno i ran 37's locked on stock shafts and never broke one...
