97+tailgate on a 1st gen

I kinda jumped the gun, bought a good newer style gate, and when I got it home discovered the hinges are completely different.. anyone used the first gen mounts or fab something of there own?? pics would be nice to set me in the right direction

The hinges, tailgate, tailgate body opening and taillights are all different. Go back and get the right part.

Agreed. It's not worth the hassle of trying to make it work. Which it won't

I like my fiberglas tailgate - it's the only large thing on my rig that will never rust!

No, but it will crack pretty well first time you hit it.

Agreed, the fiberglass tailgates are junk but unless you pull something like Josh (Reichy) did and trim the 97+ liftgate while doing a Cheromanche type conversion, you're going to be looking at a ton of work making everything work. The entire rear section of the roof is different not to mention taillights and wiring.
