I have been to Elite Autoglass and they gave me an estimate of about $330 to replace the molding and glass... anyone know of anywhere cheaper I can go in the springs? I am thinking of getting the glass from Yella and then getting it installed... jus gotta find somewhere cheap.

Hey Danny,
I've got a call in to my glass guy to see what he'd charge for installation of the window. If the price is right for ya, maybe you could get him scheduled on a day where you come down, get the glass, then head over to him to have it installed - he's about 10 minutes from me.
It's kinda unusual for him not to answer the phone........ Hopefully this economy hasn't shut him down......
I'll post up when I hear back.

If it is the rear window that one is easy to replace. Just held in with a rubber seal. I put mine with a flat tip. Took me about 10 mins.

Are they the same on 97+? Mounting style if so its pretty easy to put one in yourself...I did one on my 96, it took me about 20 minutes because, i had to figure out what to use to put the seal in.

Nope, his is the '97+ glue in with a rubber trim piece.
Danny, the rear rubber trim is a dealer item only - he said his price was $71 not including his mark up so he suggested you go get the trim on your own. He'll do the installation for $50.

Or........ you can install it yourself. Most larger auto parts stores should carry the windshield glue/sealant. Or, go to a non-chain glass shop and see what they'd charge to cut out/clean your window channel and sell you a tube of glue/sealant..... I'm thinking most chain stores aren't going to know how to price doing that separately and don't generally sell their supplies to the public.......:dunno:
Otherwise you just need to get a real sharp knife like a longer blade carpet knife or contractor's knife. Remove as much of the busted glass from the glue by hand as you can, then cut into the glue/sealant between the glass and hatch. Cut a smooth, flat surface as close to the hatch as you can. Clean the glue/sealant off the new glass, install rubber trim around the window, then run a bead of glue/sealant around the window channel. Let it set up for a few minutes, then press the window into the glue/sealant until the rubber trim sits flat against the hatch. Then I'd leave the hatch open for a few hours in the sun (open hatch eliminates risk of the glass falling out) and then you're good to go.

Youre awesome! Thanks. So all I would have to do is go to a Jeep dealer and ask them to order it for me? Then get it, and head up to that guys shop? I am interested in that option. I don't want to mess it up.

Yep, you bring him the rubber trim, and my window, he'll install it for $50. Like I said though, that trim sounds like it could be pricey with all the price increasing Jeep did with their parts recently........ Let us know what you find out the cost to be.

Is this the same guy that does the killer deal on the windshields and upgrades the older style leaky trim with the newer rubber seal?
If so I might have to give him a buzz. I got a crack that started last month and now looks like a map to Route 66.....................

Yup. He doesn't "do" the upgrade - it requires that you scrap your metal trim, and then use a dremel to cut off the little studs in the window channel that held the trim clips. Once that's done, he'll install the new windshield with the '95+ rubber gasket/trim.
He quoted me a jeep club deal of $170 out the door but that was a while ago now and the price may have changed. And that price was you bringing the XJ to him, not for his mobile service.
