Steering wheel upgrade---Clock spring ???

I'm looking to remove the airbag & wheel from my 96. I searched and found that it's an easy install. The problem is that some have said that you have to remove the clock spring.

Has anybody installed an after market wheel and retained the clock spring?

Thanks.

(I've done the swap on a 94 but the 96 is different)

Do you have cruise control or are you just worried about the horn? If you only want to retain the horn, try 53Guy's writeup on PBB... he just used a coiled guitar/amp cord. Seems like the KISS principal.

No cruise control. I just want the turn signal switch to return automatically.

I'll check out his write up.

Thanks

I checked his thread but it looks like he removed it like everyone else. The only reason I think it can be done is becase I read about somebody modifying it to work (no details though).

I probably shooting in the dark but any insight would be appreciated.
