So beginning of last summer I took the Jeep off the road, it picked up some bad vibrations and I was looking for a different DD anyway since I was moving from MA to VA (and figured I would be making the drive back to MA at least once every other month, round trip being 900ish miles) so I wanted something a bit better on gas. The vibrations seemed strange, didn't feel anything like the last time I had my U-joints going bad...

Well I lost my job in VA, moved back to MA, maybe moving to CT soon.. Its a beautiful day outside and I decided to go to the tent thing out back and start pulling out my interior so when I get a job and have money to work on it again I can patch up the holes in the floor and protective coat the whole thing, take out carpets, etc.

Well I didnt realize the back of the tent doesnt open, and the XJ was backed right up to the tent, so no go on tearing out the interior since I cant get the hatch open. I decided to crawl underneath and see if MAYBE my vibs were cause by something simple. Grabbed hold of the driveshaft... well it's gonna be a cheap fix. Apparently one of the U-joint clips came out somehow (not sure if this was the cause of hte vibs or because of the vibs). Regardless, the cap 90* from it had lost all the needle bearings and was just floppin around in there. So I had 2 issues, a loose cap (thank god the cap didnt just shoot out) and one w/o any bearings.

Alright, thats all there is to this post really, my story of being glad my problem wasn't the clutch like I initially thought. Felt like telling someone but my mother isn't all that interested and I am waiting for laundry to finish before I go and get dirty changing U-joints. heh. Guess maybe instead of just giving up last summer I should have just done my normal diagnosis. I love the Jeep and apparently the Jeep is loving me back.
