Pulled it back over, yanked a few spark plugs to get rid of some excess oil, topped it off, drove back to camp. :D

I had a great experience hanging with the SoCal guys and hopefully it won't be the last time!

How did the Jeep handle the flop? Did the cage hold up OK?

Perfect! Aside from some small dents & scratches on the cage bars, the only front end damage was a small scratch on the hood.

Here's a mid-recovery shot; you can see the hood mark about midway on the passenger side:

The tailgate was not so fortunate...looks like the rear will be going in for reconstruction v3.0. It'll probably get wheeled sans tailgate for a while though.

Wow, it looks like it really held up well!!! I wouldn't fix most of that damage.... just write "Denied on Backdoor" on the biggest dent!!

I gotta' tell you all that Chris has balls of iron.
Nobody ever really want to go wheelin' with Matty and I, we are known for
breaking and damaging our 'guests' rigs.
We have both tried Backdoor before, but have yet to be successful. Chris didn't hesitate (well, we didn't notice any hesitation!) to get his rig in line for the climb.
Almost made it (that is all I can say about my runs at it too.)

Yep...with very few exceptions, I've done everything on the rig - started out as 2-wheel-drive from the factory. :D

Yeah, it was a blast for sure. Aside from the usual places in NJ and PA, I've been lucky enough to wheel in Massachusetts, Virginia, Kentucky (Harlan), North Carolina (Tellico), Colorado (Grand Junction)...and everything just sorta fell into place for this one.

Still gotta hit Moab and the Rubicon. :D

all with the same rig? that's impressive. and is certainly something to be said for how you've built it.

did you do baby steps or did you go right to the big tires and 60's?

i feel like i'd love to have my rig at the level yours is, but a) can't afford it, b)mine is my DD, and c)i'm not that good at fabbing (yet, i can only hope)

It was my daily driver from November 1999 through the beginning of 2006...at that point I had a new job, a steady income, and the ability to take it off the road for a while and build it big. I've personally put about 120,000 miles on it since owning it and haven't done anything at all to the motor. :D

quite impressive, not even a tune up? :spin1: i've got a steady job coming my way this summer after i graduate, and i'm afraid for what i'm going to do to my jeep at that time.

Honestly...I'm awful about motor maintenance. :gag:

The first cap, rotor, and wires I did on it was in March 2007. Prior to that I think I only changed the spark plugs once. Oil's been in it for about 2.5 years now (granted, not many miles during that time). Water pump in 2003. CCV valve in 2002.

I can't kill this thing...and it still continues to run smooth as glass, to the point where I've got poly motor mounts and a poly trans mount and it barely vibrates at all.

awesome timeline pictures!

so now my question is, I've seen posts before about jersey guys having trouble getting their rigs inspected with vehicle height and classification. And I also see you have a license plate in the CA pics. Is that thing road registered?! Just curious.

vetteboy
March 12th, 2009, 05:09
Registered? Yep, just renewed actually.

Insured? Yep, all necessary coverage.

Inspected...well, let's not get carried away. :D

And believe me...there are few people in this state more familiar than me with all the nitty-gritty details of the modified height inspection rules. Sometimes it's just more subtle to drive around with an expired (but legitimate, back in its day) modified height sticker than a gigantic red rejection sticker.

LOL gotcha! I was just imagining driving to the garage or wherever for inspection and seeing the look on the guys face when he sees THAT cherokee haha! what cherokee? I see cherokee headlights and grill!
