This is probably a simple problem but I'm dumb when it comes to computers. The problem is when I click on a link to a web address the window that I was browsing in gets automatically closed and the link is opened in a new window and there is no way to go back to the window I was just viewing(i.e if I were looking at an e-mail a friend sent me with a link to a web site the window that I was looking at my email would be replaced by a new window with no way to go back to my e-mail???
This computer also won't let me have multiple windows open and active at once??
Does anyone know what's up and how I can fix it??

What browser ? check your 'options' and look for 'open new window when clicking links', in firefox it's under 'tools' 'options' 'tabs'... I don't use IE except for MS updates so I'm not sure where it is there...

If you are using IE, hold down the shift key when you click the link.

I don't know...the problem wasn't there untill the old man "worked" on the computer,so I think he caused it but he doesn't know how to fix it either.
Could it have anything to do with my pop up blocker?I just tried to click on a link in one of the threads here and the link won't open but everytime I click on it it makes that bubble popping sound?
b.t.w I was using "i.e" figuretivly.Is I.E a computer term?I told you I'm an idiot about puters'...lol

yea, if you open up new pages, the pop up blocker will think they are pop ups.. i hate it.
do what lou said and see if its that, then if not try turning it off anyways. if not, its gotta be a setting or spyware.

If you're hearing a bubble popping sound, it's most likely the pop up blocker on the google toolbar. Try holding down Ctrl when you click the links.... Or get firefox.

So why can't I have multiple windows open at the same time?If I open a new window by using ctrl+n the new window replaces the old window entirely.

Mine will occasionally refuse to go back it just reloads the page. I hate it. I'm using the new IE so i hear the popping sound occasionally when I click back. It's very intermittent and I can never tell when it's gonna do it. NO problems with it closing windows on its own though.

Sometimes if I click on the back button several times fast enough it will go back, other times It will just automatically slow my clicks down and reload the page several times.

If you're using any of those POS tool bars from yahoo, aol, google or whatever, uninstall them. Scan your PC with a good anti-spyware program like adaware or spybot and run an anti-virus scan for good measure. If the Reuse windows for launching shortcuts option is checked, it should work unless some of that other crap is interferring.
