Transmission problems

I did a search and couldn't find anything relevant to the issue. My buddy has a 92 or 93 automatic XJ. Not sure which engine though. The transmission will not upshift unless he lets off the gas, at whcih time it does upshift. Somebody said it might be the transmission governor having problems which allows the transmission to shift. Anybody have any ideas?

i had a simillar issue w/ my jeep. In my case, it was the throttle positioning sensor.. This came with a check engine light.

Ensure that the level of tranny fluid is correct on the dipstick. When was the last time the transmission fluid was changed? Can't forget the basics. Any check engine light on??

The throttle position sensor is involved with shift points of the transmission. Definitely have your buddy test this component. Procedure is in the manuals. A failing TPS may or may not set a check engine light.

have the tcm scanned for any dtc's. its separate from the pcm. just did it on my '95 the other day and found a faulty solenoid
