i have a 95 xj with an auto and the low range is broken in the transfer case. i will be swapping it out soon and would like to know if any 231 will fit or just the ones from behind an auto?

You need a 23-spline short-input shaft 231. You can find them in 1990-1994ish XJs with the AX-15 5-speed, and 1991 and later XJs with the AW4 auto. According to Novak, anyway.

If I'm not mistaken you can use any 231 as long as it's the same spline count and just shorten it by cutting the input shaft down to whatever length you need if it's too long.
