You weren't out of the XJ business for too long. When are we going to have a WrenchFest for you?

Congrats on the new ride. Looks like a pretty nice one.

Yeah, I wanted to get a utility ATV, but anything decent is pretty expensive. I figured why not get a cheap XJ and have fun with it.

I saw this on CL. Good job snatching that one up.

February 18th, 2009, 18:05
Yeah, as long as this engine holds out then it will be a good deal. Its going to be 4 trails only. I drove it to the gym and it seems to be good. It needs some new suspension components though.

mbogosia
February 21st, 2009, 05:19
Well, all the spacers at PAP were gone so I got some 1979 F100 coils. I am sure these will ride rough, but as long as I get 3" of lift I'm cool with it. I'm installing my "Matt Bogosian Super Ride" 3" lift today so I'll get some pictures up when am done.

Yes, she's ready to go now. Hopefully, I can either lift it 2 more inches, or remove the fenders by then. The fenders look so good I hate to take them off though.

Well I got to do a little wheeling today. Went to a place called Short Mtn with a new jeepin friend Eric. As expected it was way too muddy, but we made the best of it.

Cool vids and pics, mud definately sucks that's why alot of us don't like it because you just can't get any traction for crap. Plus that hill might have been easier to get up if the center wasn't washed out like that.

mbogosia
February 22nd, 2009, 14:37
Yeah, the mud would just suck your jeep into the ditch. If it was dry we would have been fine. We had to use the winch 3 times and the tow strap once.

Here is a video of Eric in "The Snake Pit". This wasn't today because it was too muddy to try this.

man i had a lot of fun this morning! we definitely need to go again sometime when it's not so stinkin muddy. there are a buttload of great trails up there that we didn't even have time to try...

hey i changed out my crossmember and transmission mount today, and it killed a lot of vibes, but i still probably should change out this one u-joint. i still get a little rattled above 65 or so... i have that to do, change out the rear brakes and fix some oil leaks, and i'm down to go to moab. who wants to shoot for a loooong road trip summer, 2010?

mbogosia
February 23rd, 2009, 04:16
Man, I would love to and I know some of the guys here would also. Its always an issue to get everyone together though. Greg, aren't you planning a trip somewhere in the next couple months?

JeepAddict85
February 23rd, 2009, 05:32
im always planning a trip somewhere haha. yea i'm going to the july jeep jamboree at snowshoe mtn. But my break in run when i get my jeep lifted will be to coal creek (windrock).

mbogosia
February 23rd, 2009, 06:03
I'm down for coal creek. I just want it to be dry.

thechief86
February 23rd, 2009, 06:53
ditto on the wanting it to be dry... i wanna go wheelin, but i don't want to end up sliding sideways down a mountain like we had yesterday. has anybody ever been wheeling at monteagle? i guy i used to work for goes up there all the time and said he wants to organize a ride up there sometime this spring.

thechief86
February 23rd, 2009, 06:56
bogosia, have you looked at any spacers and shackles yet? i think you could get a lot further up that rock garden if you had a little more clearance. you could do that and hack up that bumper a little bit and be just fine. my other friends for the most part have open diffs, and they get up, but they have stock bumpers....

mbogosia
February 23rd, 2009, 08:13
Yeah, I am thinking about going to pull a part and grabbing some ford ranger shackles. The only issue is they usually stick the welded wheels to hold the vehicle up right where the shackle is so its a pain in the butt. I am thinking about taking an angle grinder to the bumper or taking it off.

thechief86
February 23rd, 2009, 08:42
if you ask one of the guys at pap, they will lift stuff up for you with a fork lift... one time me and a friend just pushed an xj over off the rims on its side to get to some stuff. they were probably pissed about that though...

thechief86
February 23rd, 2009, 08:44
i think if nothing else, you get to have fun with the grinder, but you'll still have that screwed up stock bumper under it.... i would mod the homemade bumper to look like you didn't hit a tree, then sell it and put the money toward a sturdier winch bumper with a better design that doesn't hinder approach angles...

mbogosia
February 23rd, 2009, 13:02
Well, I decided to hack the lower part of the bumper off. Angle grinder did great. I now have a much better approach angle and retained the bumper.

We're gonna be heading up there the end of March for a ride. Check the calendar of events. Wanna join us for some wheeling?????:yelclap:

thechief86
February 23rd, 2009, 14:33
heck yeah i'm up for some march wheelin! let me know the exact date so i can get out of work. i might even quit! my job blows, and i don't need it while i'm in school... bogosia, let's see some pics of that bumper!!

nicely done, sir... now we can take that thing up to the mountain and do some real fun stuff! are you gonna cut off that bent place on the side, or what do you have in mind for that whole shebang?

JeepAddict85
February 23rd, 2009, 16:57
lookin better man. if you get some scrap steel and cut it into shape, ill weld it together for u...we can make you a budget bumper or something if you want.

thechief86
February 23rd, 2009, 17:22
hey jeep addict, do you still have your stock rear driveshaft? i have a front ds you could use with your sye, but i need a stock rear ds that isn't bent. if you have one or know anyone who does. i'd love to trade with you...

mbogosia
February 23rd, 2009, 17:22
Eric, I tried to use my Hi Lift and wedge it in between the bent tube and my bumper, but it just wouldn't fit. I think I need to hit a tree with the other side and call it a day.

thechief86
February 23rd, 2009, 17:32
hahaha sweet. if you want, we can chain you to a tree, and use my winch to pull it out... man that kinda sounded dirty. snortsnortnort....

mbogosia
February 23rd, 2009, 17:36
Thats a good idea. That is chaining MY VEHICLE to a tree and using your winch.

thechief86
February 23rd, 2009, 17:42
yeah. sure. either way i think we can bend that tube back out, maybe take off that corner and bang the stock sheet metal back out with a hammer, put it back together, and cover up what ugly is left with some spray paint.

thechief86
February 23rd, 2009, 17:43

Just cut the whole thing off and call it a day. I like Gregs idea better about getting some square tube steel and build a new bumper. If you know someone with a welder you can build one for pretty cheap.

Continuously banging the stock one out is like putting lip stick on a pig. It may have worked for the previous owner, but it's an anchor for you.

JeepAddict85
February 24th, 2009, 06:15
hahahaha...^i liked that

but yea...we could make you a decent bumper. Do some unibody tie ins (extended mounting plates), and even integrate that brush guard you have currently. It would be a fun project to do

thechief86
February 24th, 2009, 08:02
i knew that what i said wasn't the best thing to do about the bumper, i was just offering a temp solution till you have time to mess with it. i personally love building bumpers, and anything else i can. i was just offering some turd polish....

Dont worry he will give his turd a high gloss shine. And all he has is time, he definately "Hardly Works".

huh? haha i don't really get it, but ok...ohhhhhh now i get it, you're referring to bogosia polishing turds and having lots of time.... it's a little funnier now...

ok i'll bite-how do you know? i got on here to brag about how i'm gonna trade my cj5 for a full size wagoneer on friday, and how it has a v8 and dana 44's from the factory, but sure, i'm curious. what do ya hafta do to mess up one of those skid plates so bad that you hafta cut it off?

Eric, that waggy is going to be cool. V8 will be awesome!

thechief86
February 25th, 2009, 19:09
dude, you don't even know! i love my cj, but i think in the long run i'm gonna be a happy camper with something that feels like a 4x4 cadillac, but can actually wear a set of truck nutz without lying to the people behind me... i just need to get an ac compressor, get it charged, and plumb some vacuum lines. this thing is really nice...
