Looking for opinions on this and searchnig did not turn up much uesful info.
I have aset of steel Cragar Soft 8's and a set of alloy Pro Comp 8069's (basically Soft 8's, only alloy, not steel). I currently have BFG AT's on the Cragars and Pro Comp XMT's mounted on the alloys for off-road, but recently wedged a very large piece of wood in between the tire and wheel. It held air the rest of the day but I think the rim may be bent. At $100+ for the alloys I can't afford to bash too many more of them, so I am thinking of swapping the tires and rims. Is there much of a difference in running alloy vs. steel on the highway or would the tires be the main influence on mpg or will the difference even be worth the cost in swapping the tires over?
Long question, but any opinions would be appreciated.
BTW...2000 XJ, 4.0L, AW4, RE 3.5, 3.55's and running 31x10.50's.
