car AC compressor bad?

OK this is a bit techish, but not XJ. My old chevy PU that has been under the worlds longest engine swap/rebuild had a fairly new AC compressor. In my haste to pull the engine, I pulled the AC compressor off, losing the charge of course. Compressor has since sat in my garage with open hoses. I have been told that the compressor is likely junk now from the ambient humidity getting inside of it.

Truth? Did I screw up?

Yep...Probably bad, but being inside the garge may have saved it. Try turning and see how it feels.
