View Full Version : Hollister Hills chapter run, Nov 4th
Bryan C.
September 27th, 2006, 17:32
Time for the Sierra chapter's last formal run of the year. I hope everyone will get a chance to come out and have some fun. If there is enough interest for a group BBQ, we can do that too.
This year will be a little different for me. I will be driving my bone stock daily driver 92 XJ to the run, rather than my usual wheeler. So that means those of you who think that you will need a lift kit or big tires to show up should think twice. I will be leading a scenic run around the park for those not interested in running the harder trails.
No need to be a member for this run. Everyone is invited, even if you don't drive an XJ, you are still welcome to join us.

I got some work to do on my wheeler before JV and I don't want to do any more damage along the way. :sad1:
Plus, I thought it would be fun to do some low key fun type wheeling around the park. I wonder if I can make it up truck hill with small tires and open diffs?

how about you get a d44 yoke that has tabs on it so it does spit the caps......
fix that stuff that breaks before you spend money and more stuff to have break on the trail

Prob with that is you need to get the Gate combo, so some one would need to get up there before the ranger station closes.

I've never been to Hollister so I have a quick question. (I've tried to do a search for the answer and found nothing, not that I'm not too blind to see something right under my nose, and went to the web site w/no luck.) Soooo, what is the fee to get into Hollister OHV?
Also, is anyone headed down there by way of 680 on morning of the 4th, and if so how early? I'll be doin 680 all the way from Concord so have a lot of places to meet up with people along the way. The thought of possibly makin some ground scrapin rice burners a little nervous w/a bunch of lifted jeeps rollin down the freeway sounds like a nice start to the day.:D

Looks like Friday is a "teacher prep day" which means no school for my kid, so I can jet down there as early as Thursday after dark, and stay until Sunday.
I can bring the war drums in case anyone else don't want to work but want to bang on the drum all day (or half the night). Maybe I can get the guitar and fiddle crowd to show up too.

but it was good to meet new folks.
Looks like the concern about whether the chapter was healthy or not has passed. Met folks arriving as I was pulling out and sent them to the top of the hill, I guess 40+ people and at least 20 XJs.
Got home and everything is OK. My oldest daughter stepped up, taking care of our mother so Mary (Rightseatsis) got off to work OK.
I'm off to work overseas for a week, hope work doesn't affect my JV plans.

I had a great time for the short time I was able to stick around. And it was nice to put a face to a few more names. I lost contact with everyone and couldn't seem to raise anyone on the radio. I think that was when everyone was helping the FUBAR'd chevy. (I figured out that the cb doesn't work so well w/the antenna snapped off right at the base. . I guess I whacked a low hangin tree headin up to the top of the hill following BC.) All in all I had a lot of fun and hope I get out to join everyone again in the not too distant future.

GREAT trip, had a blast. Spent an hour and a half hosing all the mud off the heep yesterday then spen an hour cleaning it out of the gutter. Had a wheel barrel full of it to haul away - hahaha
Pix are at home should have them up soon.
Nice to meet everyone and nice to see some familiar faces. Bummer I had to bail early. Look forward to seeing everyone again.

I had a great two days enjoying the park and really liked seeing all the XJ's. It was really nice for boatwrench to stop on the way out and have him tell me where most of the NAXJA rigs were playing. I too lost CB contact with everyone and couldn't seem to raise anyone on the radio and put the antenna away. Gotta get a short one for Hollister. I had fun on all the trails. Especially truck hill and playing in the crack there with BigRed, Crawldaddy, John and the Tincan. It's nice to know an XJ will still run on it's side. :gee:
Camp was really nice and Crawldaddy made an awesome dinner and John an awesome breakfast. Day two the frametwister was really dug out and quite challenging and fun to cross. White rock gave me white knuckles and was a great way to end the day. Had a super time. I look forward to the next NAXJA event and hope to meet a few more NAXJA members then. party1:

You're looking at it the wrong way. It's not a downfall of drop brackets, it's an excuse to get bigger tires. :D
