Just so you all are aware, I've searched for weeks on this topic and found great info, but it really only made things a little more confusing.

I bought a 2001 XJ with a 3 inch? lift in December. I had some steering component issues and it cupped the tires pretty bad. So now its time for TIRES!!

The harsh truth is the Jeep will be driven on-road more than off-road. I'm really liking the Kumho KL78's or Yoko Geolander ATS. I'm having size issues. Its currently got pro comp 31x10.50r15. I like how it looks, but for practical purposes I've been looking at downsizing to 30x9.50's. The tire shop says its a harder tire to find if you have a blow out, and my Dad is pushing 235/75's. My concern with the 235's is wheel gap.

I need a little input on this. I don't want it to look ridiculous with the lift and tiny tires. But I also would like to decrease the unsprung weight a little.

What Say you?

Pics for Clicks and very sorry for topic repost

What about 235's? Or is that too small?

id say 235s is a little smaller then 30's but shouldn't look bad just get another size up if you can or want to

I would stay away from the Yoko Geolander ATS.
I read all the Good Crap about them on tire rack a couple of years back + the price was right, so I installed a set on my 01 Grand Cherokee, They drove & Handled ok, But they would get these annoying flat spots if the truck sat for longer than 8Hours that would take a couple of miles to come out. It felt like I was driving on square tires for the first few miles of driving. I finally could not deal with them anymore & installed a set of BF goodrich ATs!
I guess you really do get what you pay for!!

31.x10.5 BFG ATs.

The 235s will look too small and dropping down 1" overall diameter (30s) isn't going to make that big of a difference as far as unsprung weight/ rolling mass.Like Raptor said, keep the 31" size.

So I may be sticking with th 31's. I just got off the phone with Discount tire and yeah. This buying tires business is crappy.

ok so whoever told you 30x9.50;s are harder to find is lying...is a VERY common size...
do not run BFG a/t's..ESPECCIALLY if you are having issues with cupping or chopping out...

i say go 31's or 30's....
bridgestone dualers are awesome tires....
of course i will throw out the big o a/t's just cuz of the warranty/repair stuff and the fact they kick ass....
if you call up to my shop 719 687 6682 talk to rob and tell him you read about tires on here...he will get ya a deal...

i dunno...some people have great luck....i see a couple hundred vehicles a week with most being trucks....most....as in 6-8 out of 10 with bfg a/t's have severe chopping on the sides.....cupping is due to most people really over inflating....

but if he has a front end issue like he mentioned....the bfg's will wear out fast...they are a relatively soft compound....they do really well in sand/rock but pack up really fast in mud/snow....
