You've got a holy floor! Good luck getting reaching some of those welds, Id weld it all up then drop it in and weld to the AtoB pillar tube, it looks really well gusseted at the A and B pillar.

yup, holy it is, had to relocate crossmember, then had to tie lower door bars to uni-rails and cut the floor to 360* weld, I am not taking any of that seat stuff out again, it was a pain to get it all lined up, what is a few more holes in the grand scheme? I figure I have to cut about 6 more holes about a beer can in diameter to weld it all up 360*, I already have some thin sheet and a smaller welding machine set up with .023" wire, so I am going to patch all the holes up when I am done, should look real clean when it is all painted.

with some 3/16 plate right in front of the steering box area, tabs welded to tubing, should be getting there in the next week or two.
Chris
Thanks Allen, the more the merrier, welcome anytime
Rick, thanks much, best of luck with your project, looking real clean.
The more the merrier, hopefully it will be ready, I'll be sure to document our first testing sessions here in the next couple weeks, got a few other projects also that have priority for now but it should be steady progress.
and Ben, that is funny I guess, I'm trying to eat sushi man:)
And Johnx, nope, you could conceivably run a narrowed 14-bolt if you didn't mind the extra weight and rw hp loss, you are only limited by trackwidth.
Cheers all

thanks much guys, Cowboydoc, the truss came with the 9" housing but you can get rear back bone trussing or top trussing like I have for quite cheap ready to weld on if you have a 9" housing already, saw a few sets on e-bay for like $90 from 3/16":
Here is where I am thinking of going with the other shock mount, not sure though, still kicking around ideas

Rick
probably not but they are over $600 each, and weigh at least 40lbs, so a few extra ounces of metal for assurance is worth it to me, I used the T&J front shock mounts but they would be very simple to make your self for much cheaper, I'll post some pics when I get to work of my front area. And also there is a piece that I haven't installed yet that runs horizontally to triangulate that area around the fuel cell, the outer shock mount will be tied to that also, hard to explain but you'll see when I get some time

thanks Corbina, i tried that as my first idea and it was hard to get a good weld surface area and still be able to get the shock bolt in, lots of area to plate and i don't have a dimple die set yet(next on the list).
Rick, if it drove I would think about it, still trying to gather a trailer/tow rig for regular usage, besides, don't you have enough work ahead of you:)
Ended up just settling for my last idea, I am sick of staring at it and there are tons of other things begging for attention, I think I will do as Gerr says and just finish and run it.
thanks for the suggestions fellas, I'm sure I'll be back for more real soon, I have been looking at this "thing" for way too long

July 21st, 2007, 19:27
we still need to get rid of the ac compressor, and do a little bit of re-routing, I have the original diagram to go off of though, thanks for the offer.
The gap between the engine cross bar and the valve cover is over an 1", the flanges aren't bolted yet. We will also grab a couple studs on the head from there also for a safety, probably chain, we'll see though, I am confident that our mounts will hold up but murphy's law, if you have it, you probably won't need it.

[/QUOTE]I'll get some more pics in a bit. I got the universal sway bar kit from Currie, didn't come with any mounting stuff just the torsion bar, the arms, the linkage/hardware, the bushings, and the tube to hold the torsion bar. The arms are long so I had to mount it just right behind the front x-member, it did fit fine width wise and the linkage was too long so I am going to have to cut the linkage in half(roughly) and tap the cut side to accommodate the rod ends. Other than that I just made some tabs to mount the tube.
I do know that Barrett
(http://www.tandjperformance.com/products-bpp-xrock.htm)
makes an XJ specific system but I haven't used it, it seems like the arms are shorter so you can mount it to the stock sway bar location but, again, I have no experience with it so you may want to give them a call if you don't want to do any custom mounting.
Let me know if I can answer any more of your questions.

lots of small details, trying to get it done!
Those are just the misalignment spacers from my shocks with a thin spacer for shrinkage You may be talking about shock bungs?:
http://www.polyperformance.com/shop/Shock-Bungs-p-439.html
Those misalignment spacers are for the rod end(spherical bearings) style shock ends like king, fox, saw etc.

No way I'm ever selling this thing! Well maybe not never but I need to at least wadd it up a few times before I would even consider it:) I am just doing some final wiring, trussing the D30(can't afford more at this point), saving coin for nav/comm(which can wait for a little while longer as long as the circuits are in place) and it is DONE. I still need some other minor things...like a trailer, but it is definitely almost there. Kids are growing up fast so should have lots more time here when the oldest starts pre-school. I'll post up some random progress pics later. The slowest build on the planet.

I am not really up to par yet but my limited research has pointed me towards somthing like this:
http://www.pciraceradios.com/ProductDetail.jsp?LISTID=3739737937281974529
ipod compatible, and PCI also sells the helmets prewired, they can ruggedize some components on the gps and still warranty, albeit $$$ but I have heard that the support is worth it, they are usually at every race helping with problems. I will check into the peltor, I know those cars take quite a beating also! Thanks Scott!

I just took a few pics last week of a pretty mild trail my buddies and I were on. I though you might enjoy seeing some picks of your old rig in action. Hopefully I will get some better pics soon. These are not very hardcore, they were just a few picks of us messing around out in the desert by Johnson Valley.

I made the lower die from some round bar stock and some angle iron, the upper punch is actually made from a broken arm off of my Protools 105HD(long story:)) that I rounded off the edge on, it works really well actually.
here is a little sloppy sketch of the lower die profile(I suck at ms paint, yes the circles should be the same size and those misshapen triangles are supposed to be the angle iron:))

Been REALLY busy with the fam, work, life, blah blah blah. But have been slowly progressing along one day a week. Got the paint started, the hood mounted, the d/s 5-pt harness mounted, picked up 8 BFG Baja T/As so we should be set on tires. Things to do are scratch up $dough$ for intercomm/radio(GPS can wait) and mount/wire them, mount p/s harness, finish up manual control of AW4(harnesses all hacked up so no TCU for us), wire lights, pumpers, trans cooler fans, headlights/taillights, scratch up $dough$ for a trailer(we have one to borrow for now), helmets/firesuits...damn, better go get that lotto ticket, everything adds up REALLY fast(hopefully wifey won't be reading this else she'll be on the warpath:)). Should be out testing as soon as the end of March if I can find a few spare moments other than my one Saturday a week, and that lotto ticket pays off:). snapped a few pics of how it sits now, not much room for pics as I pushed it right back in to the bay for more work, got a buddy helping out today.

are you running a full 4" of bump stroke? it looks like it in the pic w/ the SAW's....
ive seen bumpstops pre-limited to 2" of stroke for sale, wondering how much of actual concern this is on a limited travel rig like a js.
if so, have you noticed negative results from getting into the bump stop valving too soon?
can you just take this into consideration when valving a static valved shock?
or must one pay to play via bypasses...

March 15th, 2009, 13:13
The glass hood does move around a little, but not enough to crack. This hood is about 1/4" thick with honeycomb reinforcement all across it, and weighs maybe 10lbs. On the truck, it's pinned down(no hinges/latches) so the corners are unsupported, and they flap a little. It's mainly a cosmetic issue on the street. If you have the same/similar hood Zoomy's got, you're not going to break it driving on the street. ( The reason the hood's "up" in that photo is because the truck's off the ground. :D:D)

thanks, i think i have a different one, mine is no more than 1/8th inch thick and weighs about 7 pounds, it flexes quite a bit. its just a flat sheet of fiberglass. i think im going to glass in some balsa wood as cross bracing to give it a bit of rigidity. that is, if i ever get around to putting it on :D

Still have tons of small details, the firewall between the cell and the cab has proven to be a major PITA but almost done, now just have to go through and secure the wiring really well, but everything is hooked up and powers up! Radio and intercomm work, Tony Rojas' Baja HIDS work great on the Hellas! Still alive and kicking over here, just too busy trying to make money. Was hoping to debut at the night race next weekend but we have to deliver/install some equipment up to UC Berkley and likely won't make it now, but on a positive note we are also picking up a Miller Syncrowave 300 while we are down there:)

we used the Hesco harness for the motor(stand alone motor harness), had to rig some switches up to control the auto trans as the hesco harness had no provisions for the needed tcu signals. Other than that the only stock wiring is the pigtails for the headlights and taillights, the rest is all custom. I had some help with the rest of the wiring as it was a little beyond my basic wiring abilities but it all works for now:). Let me know if you have any more questions and I will try to answer them, or ask my "wiring" guy:)

Deaver race pack and RE Boomerangs.
Went to install the rear shocks and I had forgotten that I built them with 2.5"s(forgot the travel length but...)so I had to hack off version 2...3? whatever....and had to go to the next version for the 3"x14"s, now it is dialed in at around 7" bump(with about 2" into neg arch on the leafs). I have 2 inches to play with on the shock so may end up adding a spacer on the bumpstop to go with 50/50(6+ 6-). I am starting to hate this thing, but will NEVER give up:)
Aside from that, just more frustration and learning experiences, at the end of the day, I can honestly say that I have learned more from this project than any other project I have ever undertaken...by far, so you can't take that away at least:)
Version X I'll call it(still going to add vert supports and a little more gusseting):

thanks Dan and Justin, I'll be sure and let the group know when I get a chance to take it out, really not much left to do but work is killing me.
This could be street legal with a windsheild and smog equipment, I think there are ways around the fuel cell. That is all for Cali, I'm sure elsewhere it could be considered street legal with just the glass, not real sure. My old jeepspeed buddy who moved to class 9 used to drive his all over town, which is actually how I met him years ago(and consequently got into jeepspeed), I flagged him down and started pounding him with questions and eventually became a part of his crew.
