Preparing cargo area for bedliner

For those of you who bedlined the cargo area of your rig...How did you prepare the surface? I'm sure bare metal would be the best, but its not like that area is exactly flat so I'm not sure how easy that would be.

Any ideas what would be the most durable for that area? Again I'm sure something like Line-X or Rhino would be best, but I'm looking for something DIY.

I used 80 grit sand paper, rouhged it up good then scrubed it down with simple green, after it dried i wiped it down with acetone then rolled it on. I used herculiner from wall mart.

How has it held up?

good so far, its been on for about 5 months with no problems, it seems very durable, i also put it on the bottom sides on my jeep over a year ago and it still looks good

Perhaps try a wire cup brush on a cordless drill, that will get in the grooves a little better... and a lot quicker.
