I was doing my usual junkyard thang last week and looked under a Scout. I don't know why the MJ related threads came to mind, that U-Joint looked kinda spindly.

Scout 44s are too narrow. You could run adapters (think you would have to anyways), but I was never a fan.

I ran a Scout II D44 for a couple of years, until I grenaded the stock Trac-lok carrier. You can generally find them all over the place for less than $100. They have pretty thick tubes, and 11" stock drums, so they are a decent axle. I ran 5.5 to 4.5 lug adapters to space it out to 60" and keep my bolt patterns the same. Only Scout II axles work, Scout 800's are way to skinny, and the leaf springs barely cleared the brake backing plates as it was on an XJ (you have to outboard the spring perches from Scout stock to get them to work on the XJ)...:cheers:
