View Full Version : Tinkham Snow Run (Sun) Feb 15th

2xtreme
January 28th, 2009, 12:15
My hope is to run the South Side of I-90 at the second Tinham Rd exit near Snoqualmie Pass (I believe it is the Ashel Curtis Rd Exit 47). If you exit I-90 at Ashel Curtis Rd (Exit 47 I believe?) turn left and left again after the freeway and we can park in the parking lot at the end of the street (should provide room for tow rigs, etc).

Plan to meet in the parking lot at 9:00AM.

Depending on the size of the group we can break into 1, 2, or 3 groups of variouse capabilities.

I will be bringing a chainsaw as I understand there maybe a number of tree's to clear from the road on our way up. My intent is to make it to the top, we will see what the snow has in store for us.

Yes, However tow rig Parking would be on the opposite side of the freeway (turn left) and in the small "loop".

We often run up either NFD5510 or NFD5800.

I was up there on Saturday with Ian. The first exit that runs the South side of the freeway to the second Tinkham exit is impassable due to a washout.

From the upper road we headed South. Lots of downed trees, definitely worth packing a chainsaw. Snow was very drive-able. Neither Ian nor I aired down. There was one tree that we had to winch over, but other than that pretty easy driving.

All in all we went as far as the power lines just past the Y. We could have continued on but would have needed to air down.

Sounds good. I was up in the pass area this past weekend on my way to the dunes. My buddies and I drove on some of the roads near the ski resort and there seems to be LOTS of snow, but we didn't venture off I-5 very far. Most of it was probably snowplow debri.

Just to make it clear this run is not being cancelled.

As we get more input, we can determin if we run it in the same place or move it. Either way, those with less capable rigs (less than 33's, no TAD's, etc) need to be aware that the conditions are bad and it will be very difficult.

My intention at the moment is to let the people with less than 33's and at least 1 locker run the main Tinkham road. I get the impression that this on it's own should provide plenty of challenge.

Then let the others try climbing up to the ridge.

Then again, I haven't been up there so I don't have the experience that a few others have.

I'm always more than happy to handle bitchwork I've played that role plenty in the past, though part of my XJ owning is opting to switch to a slower pastime after my motorcycle wreck a couple months ago broke my kneecap, so I'm a touch limited as far as strength-tasks for the moment...

I need a runner for my lines, synthetic is pretty light though. ;)

You wanna come? Probably 3 or 4 of us from Masterpull are heading down from Bellingham at 6am tomorrow and then stopping for breakfast before we head up.

I left them in the video camera at your mom's house. We were... um... using the camera and I um... yeah... got side-tracked when I had to sneak out the back door.
