Turn signal switch woes...

Yesterday I was making a turn and had my signal on. I was right about to make another turn and went to push the turn signal switch down right as it was about to cancel itself. I felt a slight snap and new what had happened. Now my turn signal won't cancel in either direction.

I ordered a new switch. Now that I've done more research I've learned something about the turn signal cam... Is this in the switch? Will replacing the switch fix my problem? Do I need to remove the (97 and therefore airbag equipped) steering wheel? I'm hoping not... TIA

ha man i posted this same thing last night. i have a 97 as well. i believe its the clockspring. check my thread. see if anyone replaid back yet.
