Hey I'm going to be in Moab October 19th to the 21st. If anybody is going to be in town I'd be really interested in meeting up with somebody that I could follow on the moab rim and possibly golden spike. These are trails I've never dared venture onto myself, but i believe my rig is capable enough, I just didn't want to screw my jeep up too much as it's a dd.
I'll be driving my 93 XJ 4.0 with a 5 ome lift, D35 rear with aussie locker and 33's. My cousin has an 89 YJ on 33's with a spoa lift and stock axles no locker, and will be down there as well.
i've run Poison spider and Gold bar rim, but never the full loop through Golden Spike. is the crack anything to really be scared of? I've been up moab rim on an atv to the first really big step about 1/4 mile up (I dont know if it has a name).
pm me or reply to the post. :)

No, yes it can break a U-joint, blow a bead, cause a roll, tear a fender flare off. But really it's not a big deal..:D
Derek will probably be there that weekend..:D

Don't let the Freak scare you.....I've run Moab Rim with open diffs, 30's and a 5 speed with a 2" budget boost......then again, I've seen built TJ's and YJ's roll up over backwards too. Stay on the trail, drive smart, don't use the skinny pedal, you'll do fine.
BTW, there's gonna be about 60 XJ's in town next week running all sorts of trails.

The Rim and Spike aren't all that intimidating if you just use good common sense. I ran Spike open on 31's with 3" of lift and with the exception of needing to be strapped through the crack (which I didn't lose any flares on btw) had no problems whatsoever. The Rim... it's already been said, stay on the trail and don't do anything stupid and you'll be fine. I've seen plenty of mildly built XJ's make the Rim look like nothing at all. OH, and don't forget to RELAX AND HAVE FUN!! After all, it's Moab! :D
BTW, if you were going the 2nd weekend of Nov. I'd say give me a call and let's run some trails together... good chance I'll be back down there that weekend.

I guess I should fill you in on the particulars. I lost my power steering on the way down and couldn't turn the wheel to miss a little hole at the bottom of that ledge.
Actually, I just buffed that little scratch right out.

Thats a good lookin rig. Specs? Who makes your front bumper? I've seen loads of pictures and video of people tipping over right at that same spot it seems.
I have no qualm with being strapped through anything, just so long as the jeep doesn't end up on her side.
Tom - it'd be great to tag along with you guys for a day or so. PM me if you're planning on golden spike or the rim and we can meet up.
Heres a couple of pics from my last gallivant in moab. ;)

That rig is no more. I wheeled it a bit too hard for a bit too long. I was crossing a medium size crack and it flexed to the point where the windshield shattered. Go figure.
So I decided to do a body swap. I took all the running gear, and drive train, and wiring, and interior, and most of the glass and started moving it over to a new rig. Here is what I started with:

I still have a few things left to finish. I'm welding in the rock sliders this week if the weather holds. Hope to see you on the trail.
