Shock Boots

nay, they only trap gunk in against the shaft, this thread can now be forgotten.

My OME's have metal dust covers.

I say they can't hurt, but if you are constantly up to the shocks in water and mud, forget it.
 
If the shaft is down, then I would say yes. I have some on my front 5150's. If the body is on the bottom, then I would say no. When I replaced one of my rear shocks, I put a boot on it, (body was on the bottom) and when I went to go do some work on it a week or so later, there was still mud and water trapped in the boot. It got the knife shortly thereafter.
