so... i wanna buy a 7 mag but which one?

i have no clue about which 7 mag is best, but i dont want to spend a 1000 dollars on a 7 mag and i dont want junk either. i was thinking bolt action, something light weight and something like a ruger 10/22 where you can modify the heck out of it.

can anyone give me some help? i plan on shooting deer, elk, wild boar...

I can't really make a recommendation on which one to buy but, from personal shooting experience I would want a heavy gun in 7mm mag. A light one will hurt you more. Just a thought.

Sako 85 Hunter. I personally would go with a .270, I always liked the Remington mountain rifle but I have a preference for full stocked carbines. I also have a preference for detachable magazines.

see, thats where everyone is playing different sizes... a .270 or 7 mag... i think a 7 mag is actually .28? so its not that much of a difference to matter ... i was considering a 270 as well just not totally sure of what to get.

Why a 7mm mag? Do you have a particular type of hunting you want to do or do you just want one?

I have been shooting a remington 700 sps synthetic 7mm mag - leupold VX-1 scope and a muzzle break for the last 4 years and it is by far my favorite rifle - all in all i set it up for under 1000 and it is the best shooting rifle i have ever had - i liked it so much i got it in a .300 ultra mag too! great price point and will last you for ever

What ranges will you be shooting? Unless you're shooting very long range, a magnum isn't going to give you a whole lot more than a standard full length cartridge. It you do plan on shooting elk, the heavier the bullet the better. Check out the ballistic tables HERE (http://www.shootingtimes.com/ballistics/ballistic-tables/) and see if anything jumps out at you. Compare all your basic calibers and a variety of bullet weights.

Regular .270 Win is a decently flat shooting round and Very easy to find ammo for.

Have you checked out the WSM line? I really wanted a 7mm WSM but went with the 300 WSM because thats what everyone else in my group shot. Most of us went with rifles from Savage too. Button rifled barrles. very accurate. Lots of options in their rifle line. I really like Savages' adjustable trigger system too.

Pretty much the same here, 30-06's, 308's and a 44mag's for brush, planning to add a 45-70 guide gun in the near future.

I have a Ruger M-77 Mark II in 7mm Mag. It is a good shooter and I can handle the kick quite well from it. You need to be aware that this is a magnum caliber and it is going to kick more than a .270 though.

I also have a Browning A-Bolt II in .270. It is a really nice gun that doesn't kick as much as the 7-mag. I really like this gun and would most definitely recommend the gun and the caliber (.270) to anyone looking for a new firearm. Actually, I'd recommend both guns and both calibers to anybody now that I think about it, but if I had to have only one gun, it would have to be the A-bolt chambered in the .270 Win.

Right on... and the .270 Win ammo is cheaper too. Go by a gun store and look at the prices and you will notice that WSM bullets are more expensive ($5 - $10 usually) and are harder to find.
