Has anyone done it? know if it can be done? i know the lights are different size. I already did the front clip conversion from 92 to a 97+ style. but i havn't seen any discussion about the rear hatch. this is the last peice that would seal the deal from the outside.

It can't be done...not without alot of fab work anyway. The dimensions are just not the same.

the old style is external hinge, newer style has internal. also the gas struts are in different locations. the lock seems to be different too. i think it can be done. from examining some pictures the dimensions seem to be the same.

I recently saw a web page with an after-market steel replacement hatch for Xj's. They listed it as a universal for most, if not all, years. I'll see if I can track it down.
I'm good!

That site is just WRONG. Besides the hatch, they also say that the same header panel works for all 91-99 models. And that the same grill fits 91-2001 models.

I anticipate some potentially pissed off customers.
