Calico event..... well, for starters to clear upsome confusion, Calico was never a chapter event. It was me going up to Calico with some folks and saying "show up if ya want" and being a host to all the jeepers. Unfortunately quite a few folks expected for it to be organized "here's the trails, here's your trail leader" type of an event. Well, sorry to have dissapointed everyone in the past, but Calico is my "unwind and relax weekend" in winter time, so I have never really done any more work towards the event then setting the day. Also last year we had a rather big problem with alcohol on the trail and a lot of folks complained. Again: not an organized event since it was done along the lines of "I'm there, I'm wheeling and having fun show up if you want".
So, the theme this year is: I'll be there first weekend of February. I haven't been wheeling since May :( I will not turn anyone away if they end up on the trail with me (unless they're or their passengers are intoxicated). On the other hand, I do not want to end up with a caravan of 30 rigs going up the trail (I think that's nearly the number that we had last time). It just takes too long.
Area has plenty fun trails where everyone can have fun: that includes built rigs and stock rigs. So maybe this years festivities could be couple groups coming up and then we all hang around the campfire one night ? So if anyone wants they're welcome to stop by the campfire Sat night (I'm going to be at the bunkhouse again) and hang out.

Not true!
The first year it was the chapter event.
The next year we moved the chapter event to Big Bear and you kept the Calico thing going as RemiFest.
Edit:
I'd like to make it out for this since it's been years since I've done Calico but I can't really commit to it right now. It all depends on what I've got going on at the moment between work and not-work.

That is correct. That I believe actually occured before we were even officially a chapter (or was it just as we became a chapter?).
The next year we moved the chapter event to Big Bear and you kept the Calico thing going as RemiFest.
And that year... there was a very small group over @ Calico and I was the invited participant. That event was not posted on the forums. From that group there were maybe 3 NAXJA members total. Also it was a "one time only" type of an event. I liked the way it turned out so much that I decided to come out in the beginning of the year to unwind from that point on.

We were a chapter by about a month.

I have had a blast at this run, don't really care if it is crowded or not, wild or mild (crowd wise) Either way it seems to be fun and a good opportunity to meet some NAXJA guys (and figure out which ones to stay away from) <---- Thats a joke.
Unfortunatly on my way to JV I developed a nasty wheel grinding noise. Just got the unit bearings in the mail today....but won't have them installed in time for this years Calico run.
Sucks cause that is one of my favorite trails. I will await the photos for sure!

Drinking on the trail is a :nono: .... after all it's a road and one is not supposed to drink and drive. Kicking back in camp and having a few cold ones is no problem on the other hand.

Jesse, Calico is a ghost town with a campground.
Do a google search of Calico Ghost Town and you should find the
information about the campground.
Got it for you.

You can do the Doran/Odessa loop. Just take the bypass at the Gatekeeper.
Does anyone know what the latest is on the bypass? From what I've been reading, there are rocks blocking the bypass. But those rocks are easily driven over. However, would we technically be trespassing to get to the bypass?
I'm up for the Gatekeeper. I'm sure Remi will get me through safely.

That'll do it.
You might get some rocker rail rash....and watch the drivers side roof rail on the one wash-out/squeeze.
I run 33's and lockers, Calico is a good balance of challenge without stress. Especially when you run it with a group that will help you through it.

Oh now I wish I was going!!
After that near flop on Bullfrog, you might be pushing your luck.
I bet that if the bypass is blocked then gatekeeper is stacked like crazy. Going down might not be all that bad if it is stacked. Except I bet Remi goes out there early and unstacks it!

The rocks at the bypass are not large enough to stop anything and are to far apart to block you I would think if they did not want us to go through they would post it. The gatekeeper is not so full width friendly anymore but is doable, see ya there friday afternoon at the bunkhouse.......SANTA

Just got back from a fun weekend.
On Saturday, we went up Odessa and down Doran. We had to do a lot of unstacking on Odessa in a couple of spots. When we got to Gatekeeper, there were some Toyotas on the obstacle and it was starting to rain again. So we headed back to the bunkhouse.
We went back to Gatekeeper this morning. Remi spotted Santa's daughter Jessica up. Sleigh II sustained some damage.
JohnX spotted for me and I made it up...unassisted...undamaged...finally.
