They did what they were suppose to do. The best defense against a shark is to punch it in the nose. Personally, I don't go in the ocean without a knife on my ankle or my wrist.

They are used to it over there. Last surf trip I took over there, I surfed a place that you had to paddle across a huge slew to get to, the sharks were literally frenzying 20 yds from the slew entrance, I asked one of the locals right before he leapt into the slew if they were dangerous, he said "No worries mate, they won't hurt ya". It took me a while to get the guts to jump in but finally did it and did not lose any limbs, I did have to wash my wetsuit really well that evening though:) There are sharks everywhere over there, most of them won't hurt you, all the time.
