I won't be able to go, but my family runs a fireworks tent for the 4th.
If someone in Mid TN wants to get fireworks for the Crawl, I will give them 50% off.

No you were not misinformed. There was some leaning to having it at Windrock but after some debate and some shoping we found a sweet deal. Last year Heather and I talked about moving it around and this new BOD agrees to try and hold it in different places in the SE. There are very few place that can accommadate what the crawl is. Windrock is one of them, but the current BOD did some searching and decided this was the better place at this time.

and some fireworks would be nice as well. Well, depends how well they enforce the rules... per their website under "RULES".

"8. No dangerous or controlled substances are allowed in the park such as firearms, fireworks, or explosives."

No noise on the 4th?! Boooooo.

January 9th, 2009, 07:11
I'm probably sitting this one out.

Morris Mountain is a great park with good wheeling for all ability and capability levels, you all will have a blast!

8 hours and 500 miles each way is just too much for me to justify

If anyone else is in the same boat and wants to wheel closer to NC, SC, VA. PM me and we'll work on an unofficial 'crawl' meet, wheel & greet that weekend.

You guys wanted a BOD that would do stuff, plan events, and get things rolling in the right direction. You wanted to do more Meet & Greets, wrenching and wheeling. I'd like to think we were listening.

I'm sorry for letting everybody down. The plan was to be proactive, not reactive. We actually have a full calendar of events for the entire year. We have both major rides, the Crawl and Flog, planned with dates set for the year. There is plenty of room on the calendar for tons of other rides, etc.

As to why we chose Morris Mountain. We saw an opportunity to get the exclusive use of an OHV park that would only have Crawl participants there. New facilities. An excellent rate for an entire weekend of wheeling and camping. This allows people to bring their entire family if they so desire and not pay a "per person" fee. It's a park everyone seems to like and in an area many have never been.

With the way things are now, we can get on task to prerun trails, plan the meals, put together the flyers, and gather raffle prizes.

It also gives people who want to attend ample time to save up for the event, make requests for time off from work, etc.

I guess I should have polled everything and got 50 different places and answers for dates. Then we could be rushing around at the last minute trying to pull it together. And even after doing all of that, somebody would still be upset.

By the way, the dates for both '09 events mirror last years Crawl and Flog.

I would hope that 6 months from now everyone would feel better and come have a good time with us. We really meant for this announcement to be positive and a move forward.

Well said. I am trying to make some positive change as well. Everything can't be convenient for everyone.

Mr.Shrek
January 9th, 2009, 14:22
Well I will be doing my best to get the fam and myself down there. Even though I will have about 1hr or so longer drive (one way) then some that are:rattle:. Thank you BOD for being on top of things, pulling the trigger and getting things done.

The Hard Struggler
January 9th, 2009, 15:33
Well said Mr. Ed.

I am all for Morris Mt., only 80 miles from home!!! I mean NO ill will! I'm very happy with the BOD being pro-active! The date conflicts with a prior engagement thats all. I was hoping for a vote on the date, out of a hope of last resort, i'm the idiot for not remembering the dates.

Who knows, it's six months away, my schedule might open up.

PacificEd
January 13th, 2009, 05:51
The Cherokee Crawl is one of two events put on by the South East Chapter of NAXJA (the Flog being the other). It's an event where eveyone gets together for wheeling, camping, and eating for a long weekend. There is also a raffle for all kinds of Jeep goodies.

I believe these are more 'suggested equipment' than requirements. All of the trails cross over and fork off of each other, so there would be no feasible way to enforce what trails you ride with what level of built rig. If you lack the experience or common sense to determine what level of trail you should attempt and the trail boss warning you of what you're getting into don't dissuade you from going on a trail, there will be plenty of people eager to watch and photo/video you tearing up your junk! :fuse:

You will need the NAXJA required equipment to participate in any trail ride though.

well i look at it this way, its a MONEY thing for me.
i can drive to bama from SC, and camp, ride the park for 3 days. and also pay event fee, and have the entire park for just us is also a PLUS for less than 150 round trip.
and the windrock thing is by what i understand, 20 or 25 per person, per day. and i got 4 in my clan, then also pay for a place to stay. i can not see that type of cash for a 3 day thing. maybe if i was local in the area. and could go home every night, but not for me.

so Morris Mtn is for me ,, GOOD call on the place for this year.

sofo259
January 14th, 2009, 21:36
I'll make plans to be there!
This will be my first wheeling trip with you guys, are there any mandatory items/equipment we must have?

Kudzu
January 15th, 2009, 02:17
yep...let me see if I can find that list

Required Equipment for
Event Participation

1. Visibly Charged Fire Extinguisher
(BC or ABC)

2. First Aid Kit
3. Adequate Spare Tire, Jack and
Lug Wrench

4. Safety Belts for driver and any
current passenger

5. Adequate Attachment points in
the front and rear of the vehicle

6. 20ft 10,000lb Snatch Strap
without any metal hooks

7. Secured Battery

VERY HIGHLY recommends that all
event participants have a CB Radio.
NAXJA requires all listed items
to be present, and available for
use, for a vehicle to be permitted
to participate in an event. Participants
are expected to stow equipment
and all other items within
their vehicle in a safe manner,
conscious of the effects of OHV
use and possible shifting of items.
Safety Inspectors will use this
list for safety inspections prior to
any event. The Safety Inspector
has final say in approval or rejection
of any vehicle for event participation
and may at anytime defer
to a second event or club officer
for additional ruling
NAXJA expects each event
participant to carry insurance and
registration sufficient to meet the
legal requirements of their vehicle
state of residence and for the
roads and trails traveled for the
event. NAXJA is not responsible
for assuring an entrant vehicle is
legal for the roads and trails traveled
in the event.

Seeing as how I just bought a house in ATL last week, and my XJ will be there in about 2 weeks, my wife and I would like to make this event. Its only a little over an hour or so from our new house, so I dont see any reason not to go! The only problem I see is I am not sure if my wheeling stuff will be there in time (straps, Hi-lift, RTT, camping stuff etc). We have to ship all that stuff with our house hold goods, and It may not be there in time.... It will be down to the wire. I am coming though, if even only for a day or two. If the stuff gets to ATL in time, we will stay the whole time.

I read through this whole thread, and didnt get much info. Is there some other place that has info? Like, what is the cost for wheeling? can we camp? Can we arrive on Wed. and leave on Sunday? Any sort of schedule at all?

Why? It needs a chest logo with the site and date and a big logo on the back with the same. Run with it. Or are you not a real artist?

I am not an artist by any means of the word, the wife just wanted an idea of what y'all had before.

Oh. LOL! Was joking anyway about the artist thing. Like I said logo on front chest logo on back is what we have done in the past. If I can get a camera I'll try and shoot some for you.

I just talked to Randy @ Morris Mountain and he said everything is a go for the NAXJA Crawl. He said his website guy has been busy and he hasn't been able to update the site. That is why our event isn't on the calendar.

We can begin arriving on Wednesday and leave out on Sunday.

Unfortunately, even though it will be the 4th of July, no fireworks will be permitted. He said there is a lot of pine straw in the campground and if it is dry doesn't want to chance a fire.

Randy seems excited to have us so lets go out and see how much fun we can have.

I've got to figure out the steering with the new knuckles too.

GL with that. Lennie just installed a Terra knuckle and all I have to say is I hope the WJ knuckle does not have the same problem his older terra knuckle has.

BAsically the early tera knuckle had the upper arm for the draglink longer then the original setup. So it gave the same problem that I have and all highsteer setups on D44 and D60's have. You loose turning radious because the pitman arm is not long enough. I wonder if the wj pitmanarm is longer? Did you get it too?

I don't have the pitman arm. I know I'm gonna have to tweak the steering some. I'm already OTK with what I have so I'm hoping I can get it to work with a little modification.

I just added a 96 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 pitman arm to my box. Not only does it give me more throw, but it also has more drop than my other drop pitman arm had. The only thing is that it is tapered for a TRE to attach from the top and not the bottom. It didn't matter for my setup because I run heims and I drilled the taper out anyways.

I bought the pitman arm from the JY for less than ten bucks and it bolted on the box with the exact same grooves. I gained a substatial amount of turning radius with the dodge arm. So, if you are at the JY, keep an eye out for a Dodge 2500 box and you'll see what I mean. Good luck!
