wtf I was pretty confident I'd win but nope. We even raced again just to make sure but I still lost. My Jeep isn't exactly stock it has 31's and some other heavy items on it but still i thought i had it in the bag. No biggie though I haven't done anything performance-related to it besides the borla cat-back. What do you guys think is there something I could do to beat him? I'd just like my pride back lol.

Strip all the extras out of it and go back to stock diameter tires. That will definitely speed things up. Lower gears wouldn't hurt either.

1.go back to stock tires
2. i hope your doing this at a track and not on the streets

yeah i know it'd be a lot quicker on stock tires but i enjoy off-roading much more than i do racing my xj so i'll just stick with it. And we didnt race on a track but it wasn't on the streets either...it was safe and relatively legal dont worry

Ditch any extra weight, carry less fuel, build a stroker.
Bonnevilles are fast IMO and I would assume it would beat a stock xj anyways w/o major modifications.

i'll have to talk to him and see which it has. I didn't realize that they came with engines that big, now i dont feel quite as bad since I didn't lose by much.

If you had 4.10 gears you could kick his @ss.
Engine mods are worth it, but you can gain a lot of acceleration if you don't mind trading top speed and fuel economy for low gears. Few people realize the power of gearing when it comes to vehicle performance.

Kind of off topic but it reminds me.
My brother had a Plymouth Duster with a Hemi in it. I watched him get his ass handed to him by a bone stock Buick Grand National. V6 turbocharged way fast car.

I watched him get his ass handed to him by a bone stock Buick Grand National. V6 turbocharged way fast car. The only car that could beat my Camaro back in the day were those damn Grand Nationals. They were capable of 0-60 in 4 seconds from the factory, if memory serves.
I'd always lose them in the corners though... :D

Few people realize the power of gearing when it comes to vehicle performance. Not if he's got the supercharged version. My friend has a pontiac grand prix GTP and a cherokee with 31's and 4.10 would be just about a cherokee with 235's with 3.55's (me) and he'll take me anyday.

Get yourself a 5.9L ZJ some 4.11:1, lsd in the rear, and haul some ass.
Buddy of mine has a SSEi, I hate the thing, just because it has leather, and is a grandpa looking car. Its still a alright car to cruise around in and listen to the whinning of the s/c.
While were on the racing subject, I tried my foot against my other buddies '88 IROC. Its completely rebuilt, bored .30 over I think, and dual injection. Thing connected to the ground so fast with his damn lsd, i sat there spinning for awhile, and then he was gone once I connected. I think he said the .30 over bore makes it a 355ci? Correct me if Im wrong, dont talk much cars when we hang out.

Those are still slow, just a tid bit faster than a SC Bonnie. Not worth it to get one IMHO.

Nice cars, no doubt.

Never have herd of dual injection, unless he has 2 or TBI's. Or 16 Injectors for the TPI. Yes, a .030 over 350 is a 355.

ITS NOT A RACECAR! theres a lot of fast cars out there the cherokee was never meant to be one of them, granted i've been in a lowered one with a lot of performance mods that really wowed me but jeez it was never meant to drag

If you are looking for a very fast car, no. Otherwise, I'd drive it.

I just occassionaly play with my Jeep on the blacktop. I get scared once I start going 80MPH or more in the Jeep.
Im waiting for some time to start working on my Toy Cressida. Now that was a fast car, but everything is ultra expensive for it, so its a long term project car.

X2, back when I had an S10 blazer there was this kid (yes I'm and old fart)always talked smack that supposedly had a twin turbo set up. anyway he challenged me to a race and said I could pick the track. I told him about a 300ft mud pit a few towns over and he politely backed down. your Jeep was not built for the ¼ mile. it was built for offroad. don't feel bad about loosing to a "performance" car

If he had the SSE edition, then you'll need lower gears, and lose a helluva a lot of weight. My dad recently sold his 1990 Bonneville SSE and wow, those things fly. They come stock with around 280hp, in the 3.8L he had. He easily kept up with V8's. I'm thinking about trying to find one of the SSE's.

The new GXP has a 303 hp LS4 in it and goes 0-60 in 5.6 seconds. I'm not normally a fan of FWD cars with that much power, but GM really did a great job with the suspension on those. There is very little torque steer in them. I was really surprised.

Only problem with the GXP Grand Prix, nice torquey motor, is that you can not rotate the tires. Different sizes front to rear, and directional to boot. I dont think the Impala (Monte Carlo) SS versions have the same tire set up, so maybe one of those would be nice instead.

From what I've read, they didn't no nearly as good of a job dialing in the suspension on the other versions.
