I saw an xj the other day, and the guy who owns it said I could have anything off it I wanted for free. The problem is it was burned to a crisp. I figured all bearings were junk but the axles, houseings, driveshafts, and transfer case were worth taking. What about the block I'm not sure if it is cracked but the guy told me he didn't know either? Do you think anything else is salvagable? any input appreciated.

You'd have to take a good look at it. If the fire only removed the paint and didn't warp any metal (especially the unibody) then I'd hop on it. Wire harnesses can be found easily at the junkyard & most other burned up items. It'd make a good rock-beater project.

...and if you do get it, don't paint it. The burned off paint look would be cool on the trail. :D

I think I'll go take another look at it this weekend. Is there any way to tell the year of a heat treated xj???
